Lack Of Diversity In Kasich Administration Questioned
Source: WBNS-TV,

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Gov. John Kasich's selections to head his cabinet agencies are nearly in, but none of them are minorities.

Members of the Ohio Legislative Black Caucus said Thursday they were patient during the transition, but that patience is now wearing thin, reported ONN's Jim Heath.

State Sen. Nina Turner said Kasich told her "I don't need your people" when she complained about the lack of diversity in his administration. That prompted the Cleveland Democrat to unleash this scathing attack.

"Through his actions and deeds, Gov. Kasich has declared that Ohio is open for business, but if you are African-American you need not apply," said Turner.

Turner and members of the Ohio Legislative Black Caucus complain that Kasich has appointed no minorities to serve in his cabinet or senior staff.

Now the group is threatening a lawsuit.

3. A lawsuit? Which more-qualified candidates were denied?
I could care less if someone is a minority. And PS Ms. Turner, there's a hell of a lot more minorities in the U.S. than just us African-Americans. Asians. Native Americans. Gays/lesbians/transgenders. Where's her sympathy there?

What I want is diversity of EXPERIENCE. Are we going to elect multi-billionaire Michael Jordan because he's black over a poor white single mother that might actually be able to relate to a good portion of our country?

This black/white/diversity obsession is out of control.

4. What does electing people have to do with Kasich's appointmentis?
Edited on Fri Jan-28-11 06:13 AM by No Elephants
What makes you think this is about only African Americans?

"none of them are minorities."

No Ohioan member of a minority group is as well-qualified as the white folk Kasich appointed?

As if we have any evidence that Kasich (or any Chief Exec.) picked THE most qualified person for each slot, anyway (as opposed to cronies, donors and the well-connected with SOME relevant qualifications. If he did, iot would probably be a historical first.

Please, Louise.

Probably any number of people of all "persuasions" could fill those slots.

6. Ms. Turner certainly seems to think this is only about African-Americans...

5. We'll never know. He refuses to release all the resumes for cabinet positions. I suppose we could

just trust that he would never discriminate, but that seems like a big change from the liberal position that apparent discrimination needs to be challenged.

"We have so many stupid rules and regulations that prevent us from getting the best people to come in here. You just can’t believe it. And I blame it on all of you, all this transparency and conflicts and all this other stuff."--John Kasich
