19. It is much easier to glibly conclude this than to review a dull, dry legal opinion
About the state's laws on intent and residency.

36. From what I understand, those sympathies should be saved in case Rahm loses...
A good friend of mine who still lives in Chicago, and a definite lefty, tells me that of three other viable candidates, two are corrupt and/or "batshit crazy and stupid", and the third is nice enough, but "not capable". She believes Rahm is the most capable of running the city. I trust her judgment. If she's happy about it, then I'm okay with it, too.

. . .but read the opinion and tell me how money was a factor.

13. Generally...
I'm in favor of the electorate having more choices. I don't have any problem with letting the people of Chicago decide whether they want Rahm Emanuel as their mayor.

35. Umm, I say Choice #2.
But at least you offered a choice, which is more than I can say for some that wish Emmanuel never has a chance to let the people of Chicago decide whether they want him as their mayor.

22. Interesting to see all the hate here
especially with the majority of actual Chicago residents favoring him. Here's the link where you can see him polling at 44%.
http://elections.chicagotribune.com/mayor/

But, I guess you all know better than the residents he will actually govern.

Anyway, you think you would be happy since it will keep him out of DC.

I glanced at the headline that said approaching majority and chopped it incorrectly. Thank you for correcting me.

37. Just the left at DU
I know lots of the "left" who live in Chicago, including my oldest friend. They're all thrilled that he's back on the ballot. They don't like the other options at all.

29. If that's who Chicago want to elect for mayor, good for them.
I've always found attempts to get political opponents thrown off the ballot to be cowardly.

And we need to be sure to the best of our ability that fairness prevails.

I always thought this whole deal was bogus. I'm happy to see it rectified.

32. Good. Gives people of the city of Chicago a choice.
Edited on Thu Jan-27-11 07:44 PM by bluestate10
If federal service disqualified a person from running in their home city, all of Congress and their staff would be ineligible to run in local elections. What was Emmanuel supposed to do, commute to Washington every Monday and back every Friday to serve as Obama's COS? Give this one up progressives, you don't have a fight that you can win on legal, or rational grounds.
