City of Branson OKs 'In God We Trust' Motto Display at City Hall
Edited on Thu Jan-27-11 03:04 PM by cbdo2007
BRANSON, Mo. -- The Branson Board of Aldermen said the city should give the motto "In God We Trust" a prominent display at City Hall.

Despite some objections, the board voted Tuesday 5-0 to approve the type of display.

That came after Preston Dunn Jr., of the group In God We Trust-America Inc., asked the aldermen in January to put up the display. He also said the God in the phrase is "the God of Abraham."

Two people objected to Dunn's statement. Greg Davis said courts have ruled that the phrase is constitutional because it has lost a specific religious meaning. But he said Dunn's statement attached a specific religious meaning to the phrase.

Branson is down home but it will empty your wallet faster than Las Vegas.

7. If the phrase "has lost a specific religious meaning" then why
are Christians so adamant that it be displayed prominently on public property?

They never seem to get excited about the idea of prominently displaying "E Pluribus Unum" or the Bill of Rights.
