If we have the smartest, baddest, bestest military in the whole wide world,
why will it take MONTHS to train/"re-train" them to respect & treat everyone "nice"?

Why is it necessary to do more than just tell them all:

Be nice
Be respectful
Knock off the trash-talk

This is all basic "Grandma/Mom told you this when you were 3 years old" stuff.

Make the rules
Tell them the consequences

Why is this not enough?
Why should it take "training"?

If you cannot "play nice with others", YOU get the boot.

Military to have 3 months to prepare for open service: report

Chris Johnson | Jan 26, 2011 | Comments 0

The Pentagon on Friday will reportedly unveil an implementation plan that will give the U.S. military around three months to prepare for ending “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” and allowing gay troops to serve openly.

According to the Associated Press, the plan will “outline the personnel, recruiting and other regulations that must be changed” and “describe three levels of training for the troops, their commanders and the key administrators, recruiters and other leaders who will have to help implement the changes.”

Although President Obama last month signed legislation allowing for repeal of “Don’t Tell, Don’t Tell,” open service won’t take effect until he, the defense secretary and the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff certify that the U.S. military is ready. After certification takes places, an additional 60-day waiting period must take place for congressional review before gays can begin serving openly

Defense Secretary Robert Gates had earlier this month described a three-step process for reaching certification that involves creating new regulations, providing new education materials and finally training the 2.2 million troops in the U.S. military.

3. They trash talk about everything it's how they bond
Whatever lecture they may get the trash talking will still go on and whoever complains will be ostracized. When my hubby, the BF, was still in he and his buddies seemed cruel and merciless at first but it didn't take long to realize they were having fun and truth be told, they were funny.

I'm elated DADT is going away and good Americans get to serve openly but if the culture is offensive don't join the culture. Plenty of gays have served in the past and have been happy to do so even though their peers weren't be lectured.

7. Trash talk is part of their culture.
In fact, I'd say trash talk is part of the culture of any organization or activity dominated by men in their 20s.

We're really just completely fucking obnoxious amongst ourselves at that age. I don't know why.
