(Rand) Paul proposes to cut $500 billion in federal spending
http://www.wave3.com/story/13916844/paul-proposes-to-cut-500-billion-in-federal-spending

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A political rookie has a proposal he believes will help tighten Washington's spending. Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) announced a proposal to cut $500 billion in spending in one year. His proposal would slash $42 billion from the federal food stamp program and would eliminate a number of programs including the Consumer Product Safety Commission, National Endowment for the Arts, and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.

It is only the first step, yet it is far beyond anything the Democrats seem ready to embrace.

"It's time to get serious," Paul said. "Let us hope the debt crisis will be managed before we destroy this great country, before we destroy the American dream to hope to pass on our kids and grand kids," Paul said.

Gee, what a swell guy!

1. How about raising the tax rate on self-certified ophthalmologists?
Let's give that a chance to work first.

2. Slash all congressional monies
Just let them pay themselves and staff out of the bribes they get from the corporations
or we could just outsource all their jobs

9. I am so sick of hearing about the God damn defict.
You bastards didn't bitch when Bush was in charge so you don't get to complain now. If the debt is so bad lets just raise taxes on you bastards that will help with the debt a lot. Oh wait corporations are too important to have to pay their fair share. Fuck it all! I HATE these people. Why in God's name are they allowed in Congress?

13. Where the hell have you been?
Those who have paid attention have noticed our debt growing out of control over the last 10 years.

Rand Paul wasn't in Washington under Bush, so I don't know how you can say he didn't bitch. His father bitched quite a bit about the spending under Hastert & Pelosi.

HOWEVER, I will agree that there are many that were fine with Bush's deficits, but are against Obama's. These people are idiots. But I put them in the same class as those that were bitching about the wars under Bush and have gone silent under Obama.

Most people are slaves to their party and will only bitch about what they are told to bitch about. This is why a two party system just doesn't work. The Dems and Reps dont give a damn about fixing the nation, they only care about keeping power.

My post was addressed to those people who didn't say anything about it under Bush, but are now freaking out over it. If it was McCain they would be fine with it, its pure politics.

15. Consumer Product Safety? Who needs that?
Anyway, they spend something like 1 Billion Dollars on each of their stealth bombers.

Oh, wait, that's the military.

But don't they spend $40 Billion a year fighting pot smoking?

Oh, wait, that's the DEA.

wonder how many of his teabagger constituents are on food stamps or medicare or social security?

Poverty in Kentucky
Data from the 2007 Poverty Rates for Kentucky and Counties Report, published by the U.S. Census Bureau, highlights the situation many living in Kentucky face. While the poverty rate of all people living in the United States was 13 percent in 2007, the poverty rate for Kentucky was 17.2 percent.

The Center on Budget and Policy Priorities contends the poverty level in Kentucky is getting worse as of 2010, with some 80,000 families living at or below the poverty line. A high percentage of these families have working family members. Fewer than 20 percent rely on welfare as their main means of support. The remaining families combine their paycheck with the assistance provided by the U.S. government and the state of Kentucky.
Food Stamp Program
The Food Benefits/EBT Program allows no or low-income households a way to purchase healthy food. To be eligible for benefits, potential participants must be U.S. residents or covered under the group of "foreign residents" allowed to receive benefits. Anyone receiving benefits between the age of 16 and 60 who can work must seek and accept employment. Eligible households are limited in the amount of resources they can possess (excluding vehicles, personal possessions and dwelling) and the amount of income earned. Families with more than $2,000 in the bank or cash are not eligible. Income eligibility requirements depend on the number of people living in the home.

28. sadly, the people there are going to suffer the fool they elected. like in so many states where an
extremist won, they're going to do all they can to gut anything that helps "people". A couple of governors (GOP of course!) are going to make millions suffer in OH & FL shortly, and yet they somehow got in, and the businesses in the state will make their huge profits, but the people are going to be neglected badly!

As for senators, this Paul guy is one of the most disgusting, and is a great face of the tea party's true character!

I certainly hope people wake up in a way that amazes us, and they vote for once (so many don't who are being ignored by elected officials), and 2012 brings a bevy of progressive "we the people" candidates... one can hope!

Honestly this state has a terrible record of people suffering from hunger, and this guy wants to literally take the food out of their mouths. When they finally understand it, it will be too late.

a good portion in the high income bracket are in actuality nightmares to the majority of Americans...

I certainly hope there will be great upheaval at the polls in 2012 and we get rid of these servants of the rich who just use their seats in Congress to aid their gooood friend$!

26. Unfortunately, he'll likely find a lot of support
I slogged through the comments about a new breakfast program in the Chicago Public Schools and was appalled. All we are talking about is giving little kids breakfast to start their school day, which has been clearly linked to educational outcomes.

All these vile people were talking about breeding, taking kids away, forced sterilization, etc. One even suggested that the KIDS need to do school service for their meals. There are a lot of ugly, ugly people out there.
