Something is needed so we know the views of the candidate running for office
and what (s)he plans on doing after they lie/buy their way in.
We already know how evil and criminal their opponents are, we don’t need to be reminded of it 24/7.
Truth in advertising in political ads. We have it in drug ads where they spend 45 seconds of the 1 minute spot telling you how you are going to die if you use the drug, why not political ads also.
In other words, more about what the person running the ad plans on doing and less lies and propaganda about their opponent.
Let the voter decide who they want to be fleeced by.

1. Not only the views, I would just like to know which political
party they belong to. That's being left out of the ads now, even the ones plopped on peoples lawns.

2. And make them do it in essay form so we know that they know how
to read and write. Let's see if they're critical thinkers and can actually state their beliefs. If they wander from what they campaign on, the essay is a good reminder.

3. And what about limits on even mentioning your opponent?
Alas, political speech is constitutionally incapable of being regulated.

Other than keep it 100 feet from a polling place.

4. Insist on experience and a track record from your candidate, in the future
that's all you can do. Meanwhile we're stuck with him.
