TV mobster Gordon dies in Santa Fe





SANTA FE (KRQE) - Bruce Gordon, whose acting career extended from the 1940s to the 1980s with a famed stint as a TV crime boss, died Thursday in Santa Fe. He was 94.

Gordon had lived in Santa Fe since the 1970s, according to a report in the Santa Fe New Mexican . A private memorial service in planned in Big Sur, Calif.

Gordon's filmography in the Internet Movie Database lists 219 acting credits, many of them in television crime shows and westerns in the 1950s and 60s. An online obituary , however, says Gordon appeared in 400 live television productions in the days before videotape.

He is perhaps best known for playing Chicago crime boss Frank Nitti in the "The Untouchables" broadcast from 1959 to 1963. In the show Robert Stack starred as federal agent Eliot Ness battling bootleggers and gangsters in the Roaring '20s.

"The Untouchables" was one of the first adult TV shows I remember watching.
