Florida makes sales and possession of bath salts illegal
Edited on Wed Jan-26-11 09:10 PM by DainBramaged
Bath salts that go by the names Route 69, White Rush, Bolivian Bath, Vanilla Sky and many others were banned Wednesday by the state.

Attorney General Pam Bondi issued an emergency order Wednesday afternoon, making it a felony to sell or possess the salts.

Bondi called a news conference late this afternoon where she announced the filing of an emergency rule that will add substances containing MDVP, which is the ingredient in "bath salts" to the schedule of controlled substances.

Bondi was joined by Bay County Sheriff Frank McKeithen and other law enforcement officials, FDLE Commissioner Gerald Bailey, and Representatives Jimmy Patronis, Marti Coley and Brad Drake.

Together, they announced that due to the violent nature of the side effects involved with substances containing MDVP, the state is filing the emergency rule.

Bondi says this will provide law enforcement with the tools necessary to take the dangerous substance off the shelves and protect the abusers from themselves and others.

She went on to say these drugs are dangerous and should not be confused with any type of common bath product.

2. Sounds like they are worried that it causes hallucinations, etc. I guess
they could be dangerous. I'm shocked that Florida is the leader in banning it.

4. not all bath salts, right?
Just the ones with MDVP.

I think that Louisiana (or some state) did something similar either earlier this month or late last year (which was the first I'd heard of it).

7. Do bath salts have ingredients listed???
Do you have these terrible effects simply by bathing in the salts??? How would you know if your salts had these ingredients???

9. These aren't real bath salts.
This is a designer drug marketed as a bath salt so as to allow retail sales while it's still in a legal grey area.

12. My husband used this last night after I had gone to sleep
It was for aches and paines. I woke up in the middle of the night with splitting headache. When I went into the bathroom, I thought I was going to throw up from the smell of these bath salts. Think Ben Gay but about 10 times as strong.

I sprayed with room scents, opened windows, cleaned the tub and towels with bleach to get rid of the smell of this. It took a full day to get the smell out.

These bath saltes went into the garbage.
