Grocery Store Censors Elton John's Baby Picture

A grocery store in Arkansas is feeling the sting of the Internet today.

While standing in the checkout line at a Harps market in rural Mountain Home, Ark., on Tuesday, shopper Jennifer Huddleston noticed something peculiar -- the store had placed a "family shield" over all the covers of the current issue of US Weekly.

Typically placed over the covers of racy adult magazines, these particular family shields were blocking, well, a family: a picture of Elton John and his partner David Furnish with their new baby Zachary.

Offended that someone presumably took offense at the photo because John is gay, Huddleston took to Twitter. She snapped a photo and tweeted, "This was taken at my local grocery store. I was shocked and horrified. Can you help bring attention to this?"

6. This reminds me of what my co-worker had to say about this cover

First of all, let me say this co-worker isn't very bright. She's pitifully slow, and I felt sorry for her before her comments last week.

We are both cashiers at Wal-mart, and we were standing in front of our registers waiting for customers. It happened to be Friday, the day our new magazines come in. As the magazine lady was putting the newest US Weekly out, my stupid co-worker made the comment -- "how disgusting, they shouldn't put gays out like that".

The lady putting out the magazines got real angry. She snapped, "They're God's people too, and he loves them just as much as he does you." Stupid co-worker didn't stop there, though. She went own to recount to me a story about how her son was looking for a new house, and when they met with the real estate agent, her husband refused to shake his hand. As they were driving home, her husband told her he didn't shake his hand because he was gay. Stupid co-worker said, "If I had known he were gay, I wouldn't have shook his hand either!" :banghead: Apparently they think gayness is a disease that is easily spread through handshakes. :eyes:

Needless to say, I no longer feel sorry for this particular stupid co-worker.

As for the cover, I think it is very beautiful, and the only thing disgusting about it is the fact that any grocery store would try to hide it. I've read the article that goes with the cover; it includes an interview with the proud parents and is very enjoyable.
