I Don't Think Michelle Bachmann Is As Stupid As We All Think...
Edited on Wed Jan-26-11 07:45 PM by WillyT
She's definitely stupid, but her endgame just might be truly insidious.

I don't know who said it, if it was something I read here, or something I read in an article in some other place.

And if anybody knows, please respond with a link...

But what the theory was, was...

Bachmann and fellow travelers are trying to turn the Constitution into the Bible.

Deify the "Founders"

Original Intent = Fundamentalism

Interpretation... up to the cause du jour.

Also explains Chris Matthews bewilderment at the logic.

1. yes I think you're right
and she's not alone. I think Palin is another. It's all about Jesus, or their fantasy of Jesus.

2. Oh yes, there is most definitely a method
to her "madness". Plus the people who back her are dead serious with a plan. NEVER underestimate these people. I know I read something about this too right here in the DU. Unfortunately don't have the link, it was a day or so ago.

3. She is a grifter.
Like Sarah Palin, George W. Bush, and my ex sister-in-law, she is narcissistic and completely out of touch with the world at large.

She is in it to get ahead.

I don't doubt that she's smart, despite her mangling of history by claiming that the Founding Fathers worked tirelessly to end slavery.

She looks good on TV and some idiot that thinks with the wrong head is always gonna step and stick a thousand bucks in her undies.

I have no clue on combining the Bible with the Constitution, but my take is that her motivation is really clear.

It's American Exceptionalism. I have talked to KIDS who think America was founded to be
God's representative on Earth.

5. Actually
If you got past the bad makeup and her inability to look at the camera, all she did was repeat Republican orthodoxy.

in water walking, miracles, and healing by touch, and Satan, are primed and ready for any and all nonsense. She'll do just fine in crazy America, which makes up a huge voting block.

And the frustrating thing about that is that you don't even need magical thinking to believe that the whole can, indeed, be more than the sum of its parts. The problems come from losing our respect for that might mean.

17. So is Christine O'Donnell the anti masturbation fantasy for the right?
If so, we need to keep them apart. I mean, if you mix matter and anti-matter, bad things happen.

16. Not unless they plan to put all historians, teachers and archivists into internment camps
Because no matter how hard they push this "founders wanted a Christian country" thing, the FACTS will always be against them.

And there's VOLUMINOUS historical evidence that the founders debated this point thoroughly and decided AGAINST it, having come from a stifling and brutal official religion in Britain.

18. If she was a tax lawyer, probably not.
She is one of those people, who is completely hooked on the tribalism of the right wing propaganda machine. She knows all of the talking points, but it incapable of independent and critical thinking. The house is loaded with them. This is the results of years of the GOP using this stuff.
