Texas Could Require Abortion Seekers To Get Sonogram
Texas Could Require Abortion Seekers To Get Sonogram

Calling it an emergency item, the Texas Legislature will consider a bill that would require women seeking abortions to undergo a sonogram.

On the 38th anniversary of Roe vs. Wade, Governor Rick Perry told the crowd at the “Rally For Life” that the Supreme Court’s decision is a tragedy and Texas would no longer sit idly by.

John Seago, Senior Legislative Associate with Texas Right To Life, says with the Republican supermajority, the bill has a strong chance of becoming law.

“We do have a pro-life majority in the House,” says Seago. “We know that it’s the personal agenda of several legislators to get important pro-life legislation passed in this particular session.”

Though he says there’s still work to be done, Seago calls this a great step in the right direction.

Let's continue to cut medicaid and education spending for the children that are alive. It's the "unborn" that matter the most. Not to mention, let's add possibly more trauma to an already difficult decision. fuckers.

eta:
"The list of emergency item this session has now grown to five. Other emergency items that Perry has set include establishing tougher eminent domain laws, abolishing sanctuary cities for undocumented immigrants, requiring voters to present a photo identification at the polls and calling for an amendment to the U.S. Constitution that would require the federal government to have a balanced budget."

This is what they think is most important this session. I just don't understand the republican mentality..

3. And so you would have to sit through this forced sonogram session?
Look if the woman wants to get a sonogram, by all means she should be able to do so, and I'm sure she would.

But this policy here smacks of coercion akin to forcing citizens to sit and watch tapes of Kim Jong Il as some sort of reeducation.

5. Yes.
Woman are also required to wait 24 hours after a consultation and to listen to a recording of how abortion can contribute to breast cancer among other things.

6. That is junk science
IS there a single peer reviewed journal article that makes such a connection (abortion and breast cancer)?

8. No there isn't, but that didn't stop them.
Also in the recording is the usual stuff about depression, guilt, etc.

4. I want to see the bill
that will require all "Right to Lifers" to adopt any and all unwanted children. They should be willing and ready to step up to the plate. Or, they could simply STFU.
