Is MSNBC Deliberating Trying To Lose It's Audience?
Two weeks away from it's daytime and weekend shows leaves people to find other alternatives. Everyone knows when you move a show from its regular time slot the audience share drops so what was the thinking behind this? If they needed another channel for coverage they could've used USA channel like they did last time.

1. Good point.

A lot of people don't even know that weekends are no longer exclusively prison shows.

MSNBC offers a fair amount of political programming on weekends now, but they have not promoted it very much. Considering how many stations they control that could be promoting programming news about MSNBC, that is remarkable in itself.

But, yes, come Friday night, you do still start seeing a lot of prison. I would rather see reruns from earlier that week so that I could catch up on whatever I missed. And, it would keep the political theme going seven days a week.

I don't get the point of the prison stuff at all. I cannot imagine a lot of lefties rubbing their hands together in anticipation of prison.

And now, with the Olympics during the week....

Yeah, many people might find they have alternatives to MSNBC.

On the other hand, if you lean left and don't get Current, where else would hear politics from anything resembling a left point of view on a daily basis?

3. Maybe I could figure that if those shows were on Fox. As it is, no clue.

4. They no longer care about their audience.
If I understand correctly, NBC now owns the whole shooting match. Now MSNBC will most likely begin to serve as a conduit for right wing propaganda just as NBC does.

5. whats the matter
sounds like he's having withdrawal pains from all those chat shows=like joe scarboro etc. that talk politics (same trash with their spin on it) 24/7!
maybe if you go a few weeks without it you can start looking at the candidates for yourself-you might even begin to disagree with them -an people like Rush who is maintain by political groups to spread b.s. will wither and be replaced by "I luv Lucy" "mr Ed" or some other worth while program!
now that would be a program change worth watching!

I remember when MSNBC was all Republican programming.

And, of course, mornings at MSNBC are still Republican. But, the afternoon and evening time slots have been increasingly filled with those who favor the obama administration.

As of last year, MSNBC president Phil Griffin stated that "MSNBC has established a sensibility, a position, a platform" and that "MSNBC is really the place to go for progressives." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MSNBC

And that's probably almost true, as long as you think that "progressive" is synonymous with the Obama administration and you don't count all the little digs the supposedly objective folk like Willie Geist, Chuck Todd and Mark Halperin get in at all Democrats, including Obama.

P.S. I read further in the wiki and found this:

MSNBC was launched on July 15, 1996. The first show, which was anchored by Jodi Applegate, broadcast a lineup of news, interviews, and opinions.<17> During the day, rolling news coverage continued with The Contributors, a show that featured Ann Coulter and Laura Ingraham, as well as interactive programming coordinated by Applegate, John Gibson, and John Seigenthaler. Stories were generally longer and more detailed than the stories running on CNN at the time. NBC also highlighted their broadcast connections by airing stories direct from the NBC network affiliates, along with breaking news coverage from the same sources.<18>

Gradually MSNBC began to put more emphasis on politics<1>'/div]

As if shows with Ann Coulter, Laura Ingraham (sp?), Jodi Applegate and John Gibson were not political? Just straight news?

LMHO. We've gone straight through the looking glass.

8. How the hell do you know that?
I don't like the prison stuff either. If you want to see the political weekend shows promoted, why don't you take the time to find out what times they are on and promote them yourself (here & on other liberal websites). It's all about ratings & if those shows grab higher ratings the powers that be will look to doing more politics & less jail.
