I give Rachael Maddow Six Months
She's been able to survive largely because she is so even tempered and knows how to manuever. She is admirable in being able both to stick to her principles while also knowing how to play the game.

But that won't be enough once the corporate straightjacket is placed on MSNBC by the Obama/FCC/DOJ-approved Comcast deal takes.

Try as she might, they will impose conditions that are so restrictive and onerous on her that she will find it impossible to maintain her standards of truth-telling.

1. I disagree. First, I think she likes the power. Secondly, I think and do not know that her drinking
might cloud her mind. She may be good but she is stubborn and tenacious yet her flaws might keep her there.

4. Her drinking?
She does not exhibit the signs of a drinker to me. She's an ex bartender so she has an interest in it. So am I but that doesn't make a drinker out of me either. However, it doesn't mean I don't take a drink on social occasions and I'm sure she does too.

8. Grew up in a bar. Had alcoholism in my family. Married an alcoholic. Went to
treatment. Guided kids of alcoholics groups. Yes. She talks about drinking a lot. Sometimes out of place in her statements. I smell it.
I haven't had any reason to think about people's drinking habits for years now but I did notice that about her.

13. I was a bartender for ten years but I do not smell
it on her. I do not notice her talking about drinking "a lot". Now I know Bush is a drunk and that Boner is a drunk. It's pretty obvious especially what they say, but Rachel is able to rattle off facts and figures off the top of her head, like she did tonight, without any notes in front of her. That is not a drunk.

15. I make cracks about beer all the time, and I only normally drink a few nights a month.
People can drink responsibly and practice moderation and still get amusement from the idea of alcohol.

talk about drinking - they just do it.

35. I also grew up in a bar, have nothing but alcoholism in my family, and am alcoholic... who cares?
I drink every night, and can still function better than most people I've ever met in my life... and still have integrity as well.

I talk about drinking a lot. Non-stop when I'm around self-righteous asshats that I can tell it will annoy. I talk about the virtues of absinthe over cough medicine, or Jim Beam over Ancient Age. I talk about the dryness of a Sauvignon Blanc in comparison to a Chardonnay, and I explain how bootleg mezcal I've had in my day varies from smoother than the most over priced Gray Goose to putting hair on my teeth and causing a worse hangover than "The Green Death" (Ranier 40 ouncers, for the un-initiated).

Smell me.

Rachel is a vivacious fan of the sauce... but if you want to know what a hardened and unrepentant drinker sounds like... then I think you've forgotten what we sound like... with all that time you've spent in your "treatment" and your "kids of alcoholics groups".

You, my dear, sound like you have internalized "the fear"... like someone who's been in a car accident and is now afraid to drive... like someone who's been mugged and is now afraid to take public transportation... your talk of "I smell it" smells to me of fear.

If you want to malign Maddow's character, please find another means to do so, another theory.

If you want to malign someone's character for being a drinker/drunk/alcoholic... I'm right here.

Hit me with all 12 steps of self-righteousness...

36. you just said everything I could possibly say
I can see it didn't take long for the accusations to start flying.

Damn, we get one or two shows,(I'll leave Ed out right now) and all we're allowed to have are drunks? Sounds like the propaganda machine is in full swing. How long do you think this meme will be accepted as gospel?

37. Hehe... one little segment that acknowledges the wonders of a cocktail...
and Rachel is a Dirty Sinner!!

Gospel is an ironic choice of label for the meme... because only the fucking evangelicals will buy into this as reason to defame her despite the quality of her work.

I despise militant tea-totallers. I taunt them, belittle them, and will happily expel eructations and flatulation in their general direction. If I'm lucky enough to identify them in time, I'm also happy to run them down in the streets should they make the mistake of jay-walking in front of me... and then I'll sue their god-blessed families and their feckin' churches for the mental anguish resulting...

But I prattle on. The gospel will only last as long as there's some hope that it'll make a fuck-all bit of difference. When accusations of alcohol-imbibing are recognized as a positive character marker in the eyes of those who it's hoped it might convince... it'll die promptly... like a sense of humor amidst a pile of evangelicals... useless...

29. Disagree.
I suspect GEM$NBComcast is hoping that she likes power better than integrity, but they would be wrong.

And I'm bothered by the comment about the "drinking".

Sounds too much like the RW smears on Randi Rhodes when she was assaulted.

3. She might survive longer. She was able to
maneuver all the strum und drang at Air America when craziness ruled there. She mentioned something about what she would talk about that was written into her contract. If they try to break or bend the contract, that may be a deal breaker for her.

It's a tough balancing act. I hope she can maintain the balance.

We need her to keep stating the facts to the less educated.

23. People. Please STOP the craziness!
I am reading talk about breaking service with Comcast to take up with Verizon, Dish and even AT&T. Do some research before jumping and allowing your money to hurt democrats and democratic causes. Verizon is an enormous republican party contributor and has been since it's break from AT&T. AT&T is a well documented republican party contributor, with untold millions given to that party. Comcast has many high level figures that are either democrats or sensitive to the causes that democrats value.

I am no fan of Comcast, the company needs to seriously train it's 24 hour service people on follow through. But any one that takes business from Comcast for perceived political purity reasons is misinformed.

She loves the money she makes and likes to party probably, she needs that money for drinks and to maintain her lifestyle.

She is probably laughing her ass off right now as she is the only star left on msnbc.
