7. Yes and no.
Dish Network has bundles with DSL providers in some markets--here in my area, it's Frontier, which is a subsidiary of Citizens Communications. But that varies depending on where you are.

owns so much of the sports world too, they charge very high rates to air their stuff to Direct TV competitors.

25. Yeah, Fox owns the Big Ten Network infrastructure...
which is why you see so many Fox ads on it. It kind of sucks when you're a Big Ten sports fan, which forces us to watch them...

40. The Big Ten has contracted Fox to provide the network...
Like I said, there's no coincidence that this network shows a lot of Fox television promos on and no other networks' promos.

And initially Dish Network and the Big Ten Network had a lot of difficulty coming to terms on a contract too. I think that DirecTV (as a former NewsCorp owned network and having probably some residual control of such) was given a better deal and was offering it as part of their service package offerings.

19. Direct TV has two of the best progressive channels:
Free Speech TV

Link TV

I dumped Comcast TV months ago - oddly enough, it wasn't for political reasons, but because they had promised HDTV service in my area for at least 5 years, before they ultimately had to break down and make the investment due to the demise of the rabbit ears and the rise of the affordable HDTV, before too many other area subscribers dumped them. But, just like my disdain for AT&T squeezing every last cent out of 100-year old POTS technology and refusing to invest in modern infrastructure, I have the same disdain for Comcast doing what amounts to the same thing.

24. Dish Network has had both of these channels for years... FSTV was just added on DirecTV recently
and be careful if you get DirecTV. You need to get one of the HD hardware packages if you want FSTV. They had to put FSTV (even though its not an HD channel) on to the satellite serving HD channels to fit it on their system.

BTW, I think everyone should switch to either DirecTV or Dish Network now if they have Comcast to send those bastards a message that where there's a will, there's a way to even fight those that want to monopolize us out of existence!

41. Murdoch dumped his Turd Bird (his nickname for Direct TV)
years ago. Okay, so Malone owns Direct TV now. Okay, so Malone is a member of the Cato Institute, and I am no fan of libertarian ideology. But Dish TV doesn't exactly come to the table with clean hands, either, if you research it and Ergen. I suggest that under the current ownership schemes, on a comparison basis, there can be no doubt that GEM$NBComcast is clearly the power that should be fought, and that a switch to either Direct TV OR Dish TV supports that cause.

Disclosure: I fly JetBlue too. Yeah, I don't like their leadership's ideology. But a cheap cushy seat and a conveniently scheduled non-stop flight cross-country gets me out to see my family far more often than I would on (hate hate hate) American or (hate but not as much as the vile AA) United. And I make extra donations to the feminist and/or reproductve health care causes every time I fly, as a morality offset.

Disclosure: I watch The Simpsons, and my favorite kiddie shows as a child (the ever-subversive Soupy Sales and Sandy Becker) were on Channel 5 in NYC which sold out to 20th Century. So flame me.

13. Good to know
as I'm going to ditch local-only Comcast later this year (their signal wasn't strong enough to provide me with service from their crummy little box as soon as it got cold out), and I'm in the market for a satellite company.

How's their quality, customer service, prices, etc.?

Local channels which includes 2 PBS, the big 3, fox, an few others. It actually costs $6 except I bundled with my phone provider and they give me $5 credit. It is basic but I couldn't get antenna service and it works.

26. I can't have a dish in my apt. complex ... but I've watched Dish net. at a friend's house ...
... there are educational channels I don't get; better music channels (Sirius XM ones); Current, Doc, BBC America, Dish Earth (a constant satellite pic of the Earth with nice music behind it), NASA channel, etc. that I don't get on Comcast.

I'd get Dish if I could.

36. Do you have a deck to put it on? If you ever move look for a place with a deck
to install. If the owner is a guy he might o.k. it, if you explain your love of sports on Dish. I'm sure you'd have a better time with an individual owner versus a Rental Corporation in getting dish.

1. NFL Sunday package on Direct TV. Husband is a Packer fan, I'm a 49er fan and we live in N Idaho.

2. When we had dish I spoke to India when having trouble or questions. With Direct TV I've always get someone here in the US.

33. Check for any T1 or DSL lines--sorry I don't know how, but business
use DSL and if it's close enough to your house you can buy it.

Also, there are be satellite attachments to your pc or apple and skip a line entirely to your house.

Maybe someone who knows more can provide info on these options
