McConnell buckles (obviously) on payroll tax cut extension
The internal polling on this must have been devastating. Add in the economic fact that the payroll tax is a large part of why we can at least see land over the water at out chins. :eyes: Jeezus Mitch is your hate that much that you would wreck the economy??? oh yeah it is.

McConnell Opens Door to Payroll Tax Cut Extension

Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell on Tuesday opened the door to extending the payroll tax holiday, just two days after his top deputy suggested Republicans would not support a renewal of the temporary cut.

"In all likelihood, we will agree to continue the current payroll tax relief for another year," McConnell said Tuesday.

The statement comes after top Democrats harangued Republicans, accusing them of endangering middle-class families who could face an average $1,000 tax increase if the tax cut expires on schedule at the end of the year.

1. GOPers are in retreat!
They are finally realizing their no-to-all-things-Obama-wants is not working out so well for them anymore.

2. At what cost? I heard Ron Cristie yesterday using the argument
that it was taking funding from SS. I guess we are supposed to believe the Republicons are trying to protect SS. Just what are we going to give up for it anyway?

4. Saw that also. Tax increase on $1 million incomes offsets it.
Democrats have proposed extending and expanding the tax cut. The Democrats’ $265 billion proposal would be offset by a 3.25 percent surtax on annual income exceeding $1 million.

What Republicans will propose to slash and burn as their offset plan is bound to hurt the same people getting the payroll tax cut - or those who "pay no taxes".

5. The question is whether the Pugs will support
taxing the rich to pay for our payroll tax cut. I don't see that happening, unfortunately.

7. They want to cut 200,000 federal jobs instead
and freeze federal pay for 3 years. So said Dick Durbin on the Ed Show tonight.
