Indiana Dem: Party Members “Don’t Want To Get All Into This Issue of Right-to-Work” {w/ petition }

Steve Bucko is an operating engineer with IUOE Local 150, District 7. His letter, below, was sent to Representative Charlie Brown and posted to Bucko’s Facebook wall with the goal of exposing Brown’s willingness to put a “political fanny grabbing popularity contest” over the protection of Indiana’s workforce.

Dear Representative Brown,
I’d like to take a moment of your time and mine to inform you of the upcoming legislative session and the Right to Work bill being kicked around by the GOP in the Indiana House. As you are aware, Right to Work is, at best, a sham. I respected and fully supported you and your fellow Democrats who walked out last session to protect their constituents from predatory, harmful laws drafted by misguided and corrupted Representatives. I expected a man of your esteem would have no trouble making this tough decision again if faced with the same challenge. Unfortunately, now you seem to be wary of the idea of even debating the current RTW legislation, as reported on page 16 in the Tuesday November 22nd, 2011 edition of the Post Tribune. It was reported you think that debating this potential bill is dangerous to you and your colleagues, (our elected officials) before the 2012 House election. You are quoted as saying, ” I know that there are many members of the opposing parties that do not want to get all into this issue of right-to-work.” As I’m certain the journalist paraphrased your statement saying another walkout is unlikely, there must be some truth to the matter. Please assure me that I am wrong, and another walkout is more than likely, considering this bill was at the forefront of last years walkout. Know this Representative Brown, as our elected official, you were sworn to protect the citizens of Indiana in your district when you took office, and to represent our concerns in the House.
