And like it or not... those about to come of age and take the reins... need to be on the right side of history. So I applaud this... plus the choice of film snippets is wonderful.

Welcome aboard, youngies !!!

Miley Cyrus Supports Occupy Wall Street
By MATTHEW PERPETUA - RollingStone
NOVEMBER 28, 2011

<snip>

Miley Cyrus surprised pretty much everyone over the weekend by releasing a video in support of Occupy Wall Street. The clip – which is "dedicated to the thousands of people who are standing up for what they believe in" – sets the teen pop star's tune "Liberty Walk" to footage from Occupy protests from around the globe, with a particular emphasis on images of police cracking down on citizens taking a stand against economic inequity. It's a bold move for the singer – while most of the artists who have thrown their support behind Occupy Wall Street are pretty much the usual lefty rocker suspects, Cyrus is reaching out to an audience who are likely to be either apolitical or outright hostile to her message.

1. Nice that the Children of the 1% stand with the people that buy their records
She's as much of a "legacy" as Little Boots. And as much talent. She's just doing it because she's aging out of the tween market and is trying to be "relevant" to twenty-somethings.

Sorry, Miley. I ain't buying what you're selling.

4. Maybe... Maybe You Are Absolutely Correct...
And maybe her "people" thought this was a good career move, and put it together for her...

But so what ???

If it gets millions of her fans to pay attention, that's a good thing, right ???

And BTW... she jumped into this far earlier than MOST pop stars and artists of the modern era.

17. I don't think there's much money in taking this sort of a stand...
...but I could ask the Dixie Chicks and get back to you.

It seems only a few months ago that we on DU were discussing Ms. Cyrus' public stand in support of gay marriage. I say the young woman has her heart in the right place, and I applaud her.

21. Absolutely weird post
So you think taking a stand like this will make her more money?

Think Dixie Chicks and get back to me.

22. wow. Her Dad started without money, his talent made him wealthy
GW Bush is third generation Mega Rich from international corruption, starting with Prescott Bush dealing with the Nazis. You see that as the same as having a singer for a Dad? So Ziggy Marely is a legacy just like Bush too? Really?
And you should send a quick email to Natalie Maine and ask her how much Country Money there is to gain from standing with the people. Think for a moment.
This young lady also supports marriage equality loudly, while such people as the President continue to rationalize their own bigotry, she stands up for others. What do you do? Anything?

14. Saw this earlier. This keeps OWS in the news. Good for Miley using her celebrity
to keep the movement visible. Otherwise the current coverage by the M$M of OWS is nonexistent lately. She needs a boost in her career and I think she understands that there are the conservative demographic music buyers that would not approve of her doing this but at least she's not writing an anthem for a potential Republican candidates campaign.

16. I'm glad she is finding her social conscience
because WE had our Peter, Paul and Mary's....etc.
This generation will have their artists...time for them to step up to their places in history.

Us old farts may not like them...but then our folks weren't crazy about Elvis either.

19. Good for Miley
For any public figure to take such a strong and visible stand to support OWS is perfectly fine in my book!

Downright heroic, actually, considering the possibility of being black balled by some obscure hate group or something!

Freedom Fries for EVERYONE!

20. Her godmother is Dolly Parton!
She has a great role model.
Miley may make career moves that are odd to me, but she doesn't care what others think.

It's interesting to watch someone basically give the music establishment the finger in a lot of cases.
