Perry (averaged) a 21 hour work week on state business

Just something to keep in mind if goodhair or other repukes bitch about POTUS taking any kind of break. And you gotta love goodhair's camp's defense of him "no, really, he reads political blogs and asks questions..he is very involved".

http://www.dallasnews.com/news/politics/perry-watch/headlines/20111126-perry-s-governing-principle-lead-then-lean-on-staff.ece

Those who have worked with Perry over two decades said his staff members are smart, loyal and enjoy the leeway they are given. They also say the governor rarely goes outside his circle to hear from likely opponents, even to weigh the warnings about adverse reactions or effects of his policies.

(snip)

In the last election, Democratic nominee Bill White tried to make an issue of how little Perry seemed engaged in his office. The White campaign reviewed nine months of calendar records for Perry, which showed the governor averaged seven hours a week engaged in state business.

A subsequent review by The Dallas Morning News that examined a different time frame — Perry’s schedule during the first four months of the 2011 legislative session — showed that he averaged 21 hours a week working on state business. The four-month period included six three-day weekends.

Perry keeps much of his political activity off the calendar, and he has said that he is working for the state 24/7. Aides have said that thanks to technology, the governor is frequently in touch, even if traveling.

3. Ah, yes, the slush fund "jobs"
http://www.thenewamerican.com/usnews/politics/8479-rick-perry-and-the-texas-enterprise-fund

Most notably was the case of Hewlett Packard, recipient of $3 million to open four data centers around Texas, which never materialized. HP later repaid its grant, but not before contributing $20,000 to Perry’s campaign and $518,767 to the RGA. HP was also one of 18 TEF companies whose CEOs donated to Perry — (one was “was Joe Sanderson, the head of Sanderson Farms Inc., a Mississippi-based chicken producer that received $500,000 from the Enterprise Fund in April 2006. Three months later, Joe Sanderson gave $25,000 to Perry’s campaign. He has since given $75,000 more.)”

The Observer continued, “Eleven other Enterprise Fund recipients have sent corporate checks to the association during the past seven years, according to an Observer analysis of the group’s campaign filings with the Internal Revenue Service. Many of them gave money repeatedly. The 12 companies contributed nearly $1.8 million in corporate money to the association.” Among those giving big money were Lockheed Martin, Home Depot, and Raytheon.

Perry received checks totaling $1 million from the RGA in 2006. In some states, it’s legal for the RGA to accept and spend corporate money, but in Texas, law forbids candidates from receiving or spending corporate funds on campaigns.

So, theoretically, taxpayer dollars could have traveled from their own pockets to the TEF, then as awards to large companies, on to the RGA, then to Perry’s campaign.

Nearly half of the companies receiving grants from the governor’s Texas Enterprise Fund also gave money to Governor Rick Perry’s re-election campaigns or the Republican Governor’s Association, according to a report released Thursday by a watchdog group.

Texans for Public Justice analyzed state records, campaign finance reports and non-profit filings. The group found that 43 out of the 90 companies receiving state money gave almost $7 million to the Republican Governor’s Association (RGA) while Perry was a leader there, or made donations directly to his campaign fund.

4. Only if we can make it a one way ticket

He is a stupider version of a mini-me Bush. Right down to the his people admitting that they hand him a one page summary of a problem and he only skims it. Chimp's people gave the same description except they said that they highlighted the things that they thought were important because he didn't wanna be bothered with details.

6. Bachmann is probably less than that.

Every time I read anything or see any items about her on the idiot box she is at a dinner or some speaking engagement
anywhere but Minnesota. The unfortunate people of that state are certainly not getting their money's worth out of her.

7. "Governor of Texas is a part-time job."
That meme went around in the 2000 campaign. Apparently there is some truth to it.
