I am so frustrated and feel so impotent
Every day we are treated to new outrages from the Republicans and their right wing allies.
Every day we seem to have reinterpreted history from the right that proves their extreme views of today were presaged by historical events that never happened. Such as how MLK would be a republican today or how Jack Kennedy was all about tax cuts (he was all about closing loopholes) or how the Founding Fathers were all about making America as christian as it could possibly be.
Every day we have republicans making outrageous statements that are never challenged by reporters but are reported as stated with no comment.
Every day we have extreme right wing politicians being foisted on us as if they are the norm. No, folks, Palin, Demint, Randy Paul et alia are not the norm. They are the exception.
Every day we see a media that refuses to do its job, even the so-called public media.

And every day I wake up thinking today I can make a difference. And every day as I prepare for bed I feel like America has taken yet another step backward to the 1890s. I always feel like we are trying to move a mountain and it is really frustrating when we often see our own politicians helping the right wing hold ground, sometimes even help them advance.

For some reason this year I feel really tired and would like to just chuck all the political stuff and go merrily into some cave where I could just watch sports on TV or something.
Right now the thought of another campaign just about makes me want to cry. While we try to out strategize and out maneuver our opponents, they already know all they have to do is drop a few pallets of money from their corporate buddies at the local media and they are free to fill all empty air time with unchallenged lies and innuendo.

Republicans have turned the country into a 24 X 7 X 365 campaign (yes, Christmas is but a time to remind all that Jesus believed in taking health care away from the poor)and they are aided by the propaganda machine at Fox and the other corporate media whores. Now, thanks to the FCC it looks like even the internet, our one outlet, will be compromised by the 2012 election.

I tell my kids to keep an eye on me. I swear one of these days I am going to go out my door and start walking north, not stopping until I get to Canada. I know Canada has problems too. The right wing fungus grows every where with a large application of its fertilizers money, greed and bigotry.

Thank you for listening to this.
Peace.

4. That's a terrible thing to say.
You certainly can tell them apart, there is no comparison. Really, this kind of thing is not progressive. It's divisive and does Democrats no good.

9. Whoa!
A black Democrat? What the hell does that mean?

You're right though, there are a few stalwart Democrats left....and we think that kind of trash talk is not the least bit Democratic.

16. Pointing out lack of differences between the 2 parties is not "trash talk" it is REALITY .
We all know the only differences at this point are pet issues - whether one is in favor of abortion, death penalty, animal rights, etc... There is so little difference on economic issues that we watch as the gap between rich and poor widens with each year (and each continuing tax cut to billionaires).

Acknowledging this reality is the one thing that can bring us all together to fight back against those who own us - that one percent that is controlling 1/2 the wealth in this country. And I say that as someone who would rather stay out of these fights, give money to animal groups, and not really think about any of this. But it's hard for me to let it go when I see the country coming to a halt around me.

I live in one of the growing areas of the country (low housing costs, a suburb that is up & coming, still jobs down here) - and yet I am still seeing strip malls with empty stores, folks losing jobs, and home values declining. And this is a good area - I can't imagine what it's like to live in Detroit right now.

What kind of a country are we leaving to our children?

14. On social matters..
...you would be correct. The power elites don't give a shit about gays in the military, stuff like that.

On anything having to do with money or economics, the current Dems are indistinguishable from Republicans.

13. That is indeed the worst part. We're left without any real representation at all
while the corporate machine rolls along, taking with it our voice, our jobs, our democracy, and ultimately the planet we all call home.

3. Just know I share your feeling... at least tonight...
I'll feel something to distract me (local govt, which in some way, infuses some hope, more control).

Then, we plop down and listen to the insanity during Olbermann on how "the market" will take care of indigent patients under a Republican "free market" health care plan as yet to be unveiled. We all know it horse shit. We all know the state of AZ has a heartless bitch who uses poor people like pawns in a political chess match. We all know the Democrats somehow have grown a few nuts, while in their more minor House role. We all know it's some big damn Kabuki dance, with our health, dumbed-down education system and general well being in the balance.

Just know I'm with you tonight. Tomorrow we have to do something because doing less is not going to help.

Hang in there :hi:

6. Felt that way since November 2000
I want to keep the hope that we can reverse all that's happened over the past decade, but I'm growing less and less optimistic.

Which isn't to say I'm giving up. I'll continue to do what I can for as long as I'm alive and kicking, but I'm not so sure an effective mass movement against what began in 2000 will emerge in what's left of my life.

But who knows? And even if one doesn't develop while I'm alive, I'll do what I can to sustain and pass on the torch and hope that one fine day...

for long. If a vengeful populace or an angry world won't bring them down then nature herself will make an end to their hateful filthy ways and lives. God/Nature/Karma is NOT mocked!!

15. It's exhausting.
I want to make a difference but it feels like spitting on a raging fire. And even when we do get a little control of it, some idiot adds more fuel to the fire.

:sigh:
