Ah the religion of the low taxes
so I went to the dentist. No not a PCINTERN story... good cleaning and visit though...

So I went to get my food to the supermarket near the office, and outside, signature gatherer, and for the record I refuse to sign petitions any longer. So he tells me.. "This is a good thing. It will fix our schools WITHOUT raising taxes."

So I turn... face him... point to the road and ask him... so how do you think THAT ROAD was paid for?

What does school have to do with roads?

You think it was paid with fairy dust?

"What does that have to do with schools?"

Me: Well you see it has potholes, that you can see. Part of the reason is this Low Tax religion of yours. No, you will NOT be able to fix them dang schools WITHOUT raising taxes. They are broke... got it?

"You must be one of them tax and spend... I mean throwing more money at the problem...."

Me: Try some basic math... if you do not have enough money to buy something as simple as paper, do you buy paper, as in toilet Paper? We are AT THAT point.

He turned around and tried to get others... but a few people listened to this discussion. One of them went... "Never thought about it that way. So where do taxes go?"

So spent ten minutes explaining HOW his property taxes are related to the schools and how they are in funding crisis. and no it isn't just them dang administrators either. Suffice it to say this gentleman did not sign that petition either.

PS I may not have my own kids, but I consider education a matter of national security... and we are at the sputnik moment

1. I love the "that's just throwing money at the problem" argument
when the problem is a LACK OF MONEY, it would seem to be a great idea, actually

5. IMO the GOP is now more than strains of Anarchism, in fact, I equate some of
the GOP to domestic terrorists.

4. The Lord Giveth And The Lord Take It Away.......
seeing that you referenced religion in your post subject - I thought I'd tag on to that theme.

I run a small consulting company and pay federal and state taxes every month. At the start of this year I was notified by my accountant that my federal tax payment each month would be going down 2% and that my monthly state tax would be going up 2%. Hence the lord giveth and the lord take it away.

Yes the Repugs run on this 'cutting taxes' meme and they get away with it all the time. They get the tax cut and the press and the credit that goes with it - but that money has to come from somewhere. They let the states deal with those shortfalls. So again in the states the Repugs say - don't raise taxes and the Dems say we have to and when the taxes do get raised - the Dems get the blame for raising them.

Look at what just happened in Illinois. This has to happen all around the country or we'll have some states go into serious default. Think California. Now that Jerry Brown is the Gov. He and the Dems will get blamed for the raise in taxes after the Repugs contributed to the draining of the funds in the state.

This is the cycle we're in and the Repugs have been pulling on us for years. The media plays along and never exposes the Repugs and just blames any tax increases on the Dems. Sucks doesn't it.

7. Yep, it seems to me the dems always allow the R's rhetoric to control the
situation and issues. So, we are in the loop of always being blamed.

8. Absolutely
local neighbor learned the results of this though. He voted against Prop D (would have funded fire and police), because we don't need more taxes. So he calls 9.11 and it took A LONG Time to answer the phone (15 minutes he says)... and then he was informed that a patrol car MIGHT be able to show up in TWO hours to deal with his all but emergency call. He was pissed, but could not connect taxes (lower) with less cops, So I asked him if the 9.11 operators and cops were paid with fairy dust?

Usually they have a problem connecting the two.

Of course he told me he was a proud follower of Adam Smith... so that means he is a supporter of living wages, GREAT! He said, that is Marx.

Nope, and I took out my copy of the Wealth and showed it to him... he no longer is a fan of Smith either.

He is a classic anarchist and don't even know it.
