Earlier today, I caught most of a film called Heaven Falls. Interesting film, based on the Scottsboro Boys story from Alabama--the true story of two white women who accused 8 black men of rape, in 1931.
It seems to me that the real life incident was yet another shameful account of prejudice, plain and simple, and that no matter how much evidence showed otherwise, these black men were convicted of... a crime which never really happened.
Not only did it show the overwhelming intolerance toward blacks in the years before the Civil Rights movement, but it also brought out other intolerances, against women, Jews and even those who believed in Communism. Here is a link to a particularly extensive account of the trials of these people, but links to other photos, legal documents, newspaper accounts, and more. If you're interested in history, check it out.
