She is not stupid, but not intelligent enough for the tasks she has set for herself. She is firmly entrenched in the idea that she is working for her "God" Jesus Christ and anything she says or does to win a position of influence where she can "bring more sheep into the fold" has no consequence to her. She will lie, steal, distort.... you name it all while being convinced she is in the right because the end will justify the means and, after all, she is answering to a higher power.

This is her craziness, and the powers that be are exploiting it, and her, to keep the masses embroiled and too busy fighting over the deck chairs to notice that the ship's treasure is being plundered while it's slowly sinking into the abyss.
