Ohio legislation would create Blue Alerts on suspects who kill, injure police
CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Ohio may soon join 13 other states that issue Blue Alerts to help capture suspects who have seriously injured or killed law enforcement officers.
Attorney General Mike DeWine announced his support today for legislation introduced by Senators Gayle Manning, of North Ridgeville, and Tom Patton, of Strongsville, that would create the statewide system.
Patton's son was a Cleveland Heights police officer who died in the line of duty in 2010.
"As Attorney General I am committed to doing everything in my power to enhance the safety of Ohio's law enforcement professionals and bring those who would do them harm to justice," DeWine said at a news conference at a Cleveland police station.
