Holiday Do It Yourself gifting...
We've made a pledge this year to gift 80% handmade gifts, 10% local 10% 'other', mostly gift cards et. al

I came across an invaluable resource worth sharing, and I'd hope that if you have a link worth sharing, that you'd consider posting it to this thread...

Now get busy!

1. Taking a class can also be a great resource of handmade gifts...
I've always been interested in glass, the wife and I are taking a glass fusing glass next weekend which we will use the projects as gifts this year.

2. I'm making soap!
It's fun, lots of recipes, and quite the learning experience. With a pending revolution, it's not only a means of gift-giving, but also a means of learning to make something you use on a daily basis :)

3. I'm also a homebrewer...
I plan on making up a few four pack holders in the shop with some scrap lumber and giving the gift of beer!

6. Homebrewing ...
Something I've been thinking about trying for a while now. Alcohol always goes over well in tough times.

10. Oh bummer!
Can you get it online? I just started my attempts at soapmaking, so I wouldn't feel comfortable selling my product lol. It's supposed to sit for 3 weeks after making it, and my first batch will be ready to use on 12/10. I'm kinda scared to use it, but insist I use it before I give it to anyone else for use :)

This batch was a buttermilk and oatmeal bar with an orange scent.

4. For those who aren't handy at making gifts, maybe find a local artisan
who could use the business. I found some really nice, handmade gifts at arts and crafts fairs this year.

8. We quit "gifting" altogether
Edited on Mon Nov-21-11 01:42 PM by SoCalDem
Our kids are grown up ans the whole exchanging gift cards thing, got old.. I am a year-round "gifter".. when I see something I know they would like, I buy it & send it to them..,

My two younger sons were Nintendo NES kids, so I recently "gave them their childhoods back" with Nintendo NES that I found refurbished on ebay..along with all the goodies & games..

They have Wii and all the fancy stuff now, but they LOVED getting NES back, along with all the games they loved as little boys

11. I've been making food gifts for about the last decade or so.
Usually biscotti, but sometimes truffles, like every few years for those (they're time-consuming but relatively easy to make.) Here's my photo-account for making biscotti as posted in the Cooking & Baking forum here:

Biscotti in Pictures! (dial-up warning)

Oh, last year I perfected my recipe for Coconut-Lime Biscotti, too :hi:
