After widespread bombing of Libya, U.S./NATO scramble over the spoils

The U.S./NATO war against the North African oil-producing state of Libya has destroyed the continent’s most prosperous country. The extensive dismantling of the infrastructure and theft of the people’s wealth are becoming clearer as Libyans seek redress for imperialism’s crimes.

Responding to the revelations of war crimes, NATO leaders are refusing to acknowledge the unjust acts of dislocation and mass murder. Although the imperialists claimed to “protect” civilians, airstrikes killed and injured many. A bombing raid in June in Suq Juma hit a home, killing five people, although officials said it struck a military barracks. NATO finally admitted hitting the residence, but they refused to accept responsibility for the deaths.

The Royal United Services Institute, a British think tank, claims only 100 people died from all U.S./NATO airstrikes since March 19, but Moammar Gadhafi’s government asserted that thousands of civilians died.

Britain, a leading NATO country involved in this war, will profit immensely. Press TV stated that Britain could make “profits of up to 200 billion gained from contracts to put Libya together … had made an excellent investment by spending nearly 300 million bombing Libya.” (Nov. 14)

7. Why does the US have the biggest, most powerful military in ...

history? It is protecting us from what formidable adversary?

It ain't about Obama, whoever is president is in charge of the US imperialist foreign policy, that doesn't change. The capitalists require imperialism to keep their racket going, the person in the Oval Office has already basically agreed to this or they wouldn't be in position to take the oath.

If Fifteen aircraft carrier groups ain't imperialism, with hundreds of bases around the world, then the word is meaningless.

8. Why do China and Russia have big militaries?
Oh, sure, they may not have 15 aircraft carriers but that's not from lack of desire and general neighborliness on their part.

And no, they are not the poor, oppressed masses of the world defending themselves from Obama's evil capitalist imperialism. Russia didn't subjugate Eastern Europe out of the kindness of its heart and China doesn't occupy Tibet as a humanitarian mission.

9. A power that can project itself anywhere in the world might.....

have something to do with it. Not all of course, but it is a big part of it.

BTW, the Soviet Union did not subjugate Eastern Europe, it liberated it from the fascists.

Since the Soviet Union dissolved the US has been going medieval on the third world, why is that?

10. Yes, the Soviets DID subjugate Easter Europe
Hungary 1956 ring a bell? Poland? Romania? Reunified Germany? They all ran screaming from the Russians the first chance they got.

And the 3rd world was devastated by the Soviets. Ever wonder why the 3rd world is awsh in Cold War-era AK-47s?

4. That website is very divisive.
When they quote Press TV, which is Iranian TV, you have to wonder what is their game.

5. To use abject fiction to keep people fearful and angry.
Imperialism implies conquest for gain. If anyone can point to anything Obama gained, materially or politically, I'd be interested in seeing it.

Obama is a short-sighted enabler of past and future GOP military adventurism, but that is a far cry from imperialism.

6. Even a stopped clock is right twice a day.
Unless TPTB have erased all the news stories, far more than 100 deaths are there for anyone to tally. And that's just the women and children.
