Anyone got the low-down on RW columnist Tina Trent?
I made the mistake of perusing the op-ed page of a Scaife publication that hadn't been used to wrap fish yet, and came across a column from this person named Tina Trent, who seems to be from the same mold as the rest of the RW females currently in vogue. This installment is titled Occupiers' war on police, and it's a blatant attempt to turn the tide of public opinion against the Occupy movement. The worst of it follows:

<snip>

Many Occupy sites display open hatred for the police. It is so open that posters of cop-killers Mumia Abu Jamal and Lovelle Mixon are ominously affixed to tents. Mixon, a suspected child rapist, gunned down four Oakland officers as they sat eating breakfast; he is now an anointed hero of the Occupiers.

Meanwhile, Atlanta protesters renamed their entire encampment after cop-killer Troy Davis, who shot a policeman in 1989 as the officer came to the aid of a homeless man Davis was pistol-whipping. Impervious to irony, the Atlanta Occupiers have thus rechristened a park where homeless people loiter after a man who bashed a homeless man, rather than naming it after the police officer who gave his life to try to save that homeless man from Davis' violence.

The rest is just as wretched. I usually dismiss anything from such a source out-of-hand, but it made me wonder if provocateurs are actually doing the things described in the excerpt above. If so, then IMO the entire movement needs to distance themselves from these infiltrators. Believe me, I have lost all respect for police departments who attack peaceful protestors, but I discourage anything that appears to glorify cop-killers. As I say, my first impulse is to dismiss this person's words as RW propaganda, but I also realize that provocateurs are likely trying to ratchet up the violence, so if they're trying to tar the movement with the cop-killer worship brush, I hope that the people out there will keep their distance from these shithogs at all costs.

2. I figured as much
Another Malkin wannabee. Shame she's getting exposure in newspapers, one of which is published in Pittsburgh, where there are alternatives to the blatantly RW fishwrap where she's carried, but in some cities, the Scaife publication is the only major paper in town.

6. "regarding my facts: they are. I check carefully. "

not carefully enough apparently

Mixon killed two motorcycle cops during a traffic stop, then two cops later that day in a SWAT raid to apprehend him, not all four "as they sat eating breakfast".

7. Where did you get the "fact" that Mixon was "an anointed hero of the Occupiers"?
If you infer that because one person hung a picture on a tent in Oakland, then your reasoning facilities seem to be seriously impaired.

And I see that you don't care for some facts, such as the fact that many people sincerely believe Troy Davis was innocent and got a raw deal from a racist system. You certainly have the right to disagree, but that doesn't give you the right to deliberately mischaracterize those people's opinions to serve your shit-stirring agenda.

But what's really pathetic is that the rightwing propaganda machine has to spin shit like this as a way of avoiding any substantive discussion of any real issues, like for instance the 30 years of being "trickled on" by a "Feed the Greed" agenda brought and paid for by the 1%, whose investment in politics has proved to be wildly profitable. Simple question, Tina: Why is that picture on a tent more significant to you than what happened to the economy in 2008, who caused it, who benefited, who suffered, and what we need to do now? Of course, the reason that you and FOX News need to avoid discussing things like that is transparently obvious. You make me sick.

3. Shameless kick

for exposure of RW smear tactics. I'm sure we can expect more, but it begs the question, will the public swallow it? After all, it even has me wondering if there are actually RW infiltrators or some who are ostensibly 'on our side' who bait the cops with inflammatory posters. Difference is, I recognize that no matter from what quarter this cop-killer stuff comes, it is hardly representative of the overwhelming majority of Occupy protestors; I cannot say how this will go over with less-informed op-ed readers.
