Perhaps why Bloomberg had his little press conference:
"What we need right now is a clear message to the people of this country. This message must be read in every newspaper, heard on every radio, seen on every television. This message must resound throughout the entire Interlink! I want this country to realize that we stand on the edge of oblivion. I want every man, woman and child to understand how close we are to chaos. I want everyone to remember why THEY NEED US!"

"Cruelty and injustice, intolerance and oppression. And where once you had the freedom to object, to think and speak as you saw fit, you now have censors and systems of surveillance coercing your conformity and soliciting your submission. How did this happen? Who's to blame? Well, certainly there are those who are more responsible than others. And they will be held accountable. But again, truth be told, if you're looking for the guilty you need only look into a mirror. I know why you did it? I know you were afraid. Who wouldn't be? War, terror, disease. There were a myriad of problems which conspired to corrupt your reason and rob you of your common sense. Fear got the best of you. And in your panic, you turned to the now High Chancellor Adam Sutler. He promised you order, he promised you peace. And all he demanded in return was your silent, obedient consent."

4. Or, perhaps, they actually caught someone...
Edited on Sun Nov-20-11 11:50 PM by brooklynite
...this wasn't another "high threat" indistinct color-coded warning. This was an arrest of someone. We can argue about whether he presented an actual threat, but if you're going to claim this entire thing is a hoax, please provide some evidence.

Add to that, continual references to a comic book story is not going to expand the OWS message beyond its existing base.

6. Perhaps I am too cynical, yet I would say that you are by far not cynical enough.

The truth within the story matches our world far better than is comfortable or even tolerable. Prophetic words and insight and even blatant warnings may be found in all manner of form, in any media.

If you did not note the "perhaps" in my OP subject, I'll give you this: Why is this story worthy of a billionaire mayor who just today sent police to fend off a planned protest outside his house? How is this story worthy of his time is not at the level of a front page or simply the police chief on CNN? Especially after what he has brought upon the people of his city, how is HE not the terrorist?

The usual purpose of a press conference is to allay fear, not to stoke it.

8. Two years and they arrest him now
after the national day of action... sorry if this stinks to high heaven. I am not saying that the arrest should not have happened if they had the goods and all that... but the TERROR CARD is curious.

9. They were desperate so they: Police + Mayor came up with this distraction
... the only problem with their plan is that it's not a big enough fish to dominate the news for more than a blippy blip - so they look worse than before!

I didn't know either. Search for Alan Whatever it was.... It's the John Hurt role in the movie, which had another name, Susan, in the graphic novel.

On edit: Excuse me, I see someone else has replied. I had left the window open a couple of hours ago and just now replied, but didn't see until after I hit "post" that there was a previous reply.
