In an ordinary town, in a quiet neighborhood, in a beige two-story house, a girl named Megan lives with her parents and eight siblings.

She is 25, with a cheeky smile. Tall and tan and athletic, she has long, curly hair that tumbles down her shoulders in thick locks. Her voice is bubbly, with a pinch of country twang, and when she is talking about something she likes, she leans forward in her seat and says “Ohmygosh!” before unleashing a stream of syllables that come pouring out on top of each other. She is polite. If you were to stop by the house some afternoon, she would probably ask if you wanted to stay for pizza that night.

She loves her iPhone and the band Mumford & Sons and the Showtime series “Dexter,” which is about a blood-splatter specialist for the Miami Metro Police Department who also happens to be a serial killer — a complex character both good and evil. She went to high school at Topeka West and got straight A’s. She went to college at Washburn University and got straight A’s. She thought about going to law school, sat down to write her admissions essay and decided she wasn’t all that keen on becoming a lawyer. So she joined the family business.

She is peppy, goofy and, by all accounts, happy.

Oh, and one other thing about Megan: She wants to make it perfectly clear that you and the rest of this filthy, perverted nation will be spending a long, fiery eternity burning in hell.

Our dear little Megheart has been preserved by her God - & *only* by her God. She has tokens of His great love & affection, whereas Libby Alvarez does not. It's clearly evidenced that Alvarez lacks grace.

It sounds like a kinder, gentler version of the Phelps Family. :puke:

I guess us ignoring them and trying to let their message disappear is not going to work since everyone else in the freaking world comes for a week visit or lets them host their radio shows while they go on vacation or writes articles like this or continue to make movies referencing them. See? She really is a normal and a nice girl. She says bad things but hey, she sang in the school musical!

Damn it people, we here in and around Topeka deal with these people multiple times a day. Every day. I went to a show just last week and I had to twist my way through those signs and the singing (oh the singing) just to get up the steps to the entrance. Everything my organization does becomes a full fledged fight with these people, in fact almost everything everyone does here that is an attempt to move this provincial, stodgy city into the last century becomes a fight.

I guess I am sick and tired of everyone trying to own a piece of them and tell the world about them. I went to kindergarten and all the way up with Fred Jr.. Let them and their church die already. They will find something else, just like they did when the gay community protests were no longer as effective. Remember the big outrage? I saw the first God Loves IED signs and hoped that would stop a month before it hit the press but once it did they were catapulted right back into international attention. Please leave these vile people alone to stew in their own sewage. Let their message fade away, let them escalate until there is no where else for them to go. They are not yet and most likely will never be violent, their small attempts were not successful. The only thing that they love besides their version of God, attention. They are not trying to save anyone, they just want the press because it gets them the money from like minded assholes to survive.

Think about it. An LGBT child kills him/herself and they rejoice. A soldier gets his legs blown off and they rejoice. A community gets wiped out, they rejoice. They don't give a shit, they are not trying to save anyone. It is a business thriving on pain of others. Always has been. Let them die and for God's sake stop letting them guest host a popular morning radio show. IOW STOP doing their work for them.

7. I genuinely feel sorry for the kids

For the life of me, I don't understand how their teachers and neighbors never reached out to help them. The ones who have left the family have described horrific beatings. It's against the law to beat a child. How does this family get away with this for at least two generations now and the state just lets it continue?

Is it easier to pretend they are just a bunch of crazy people who don't deserve our attention? If it wasn't for the children and the well known child abuse I'd say yes. Frankly, Muse, I'm tired of them being ignored. Fred should be sitting in a jail cell and those kids need to be removed from the family's custody. Do that and I'll ignore them. But as long as I see them forcing their very young children to participate in their insane activism, we need to be calling them out.

but then would you like your kids removed from something you believed in? Just playing devils advocate here because I know not many people are involved in this kind of hatred or would haul their kids out in the horrible conditions they do. What would you like us to do? They have sued this city and won millions of dollars over the years. It totally sucks. Who do you think works for child protective services, the SRS and the jail? Yup. They are in a lot of places and quite frankly many of the people who work with them or teach them say they are just fine at work or at school. I am certain, that like many of the awful people we have in our state government, they are quite nice outside of the church and their church activity. Shoot, Mrs. Phelps likes to eat lunch at an establishment owned and run by a gay couple (don't know if they are a pair or just business partners).

This is why articles like this one are so onerous, it shows how human then are but ah shucks they do have some whacky and hateful beliefs. It somehow makes them seem like OK people and they are not. They are criminal in their hatred but the first amendment protects them just like it does the clan or you and me.

Look, I agree but those of us who have to live around them have no option. No one will touch them anymore. The cops attack us when they show up at our rallys because we are causing trouble, remember the flag pole incident? Front page news, nationally covered and it was us with our flag poles who were the problem. Not those standing across the street with their hateful signs.

I am a bit tired of the rest of the people telling us that ignoring them is the wrong thing to do. When they come to your city do what you want but for us who see them every single fucking day, they split up and are in 4 places at any given time some days, everywhere we go with no help and no protection we would like them to just fade away. I mean really, like I said before, they are not trying to save the world they are looking to get money from anywhere they are covered so they can continue to live like they do. They will move on, move their message and when it all stops working the younger group will probably find the discomfort too much when there is no benefit to them.

Proud, your insinuation that my ignoring them is pretending and not doing anything is a little insulting. Really, you have no idea what we are doing here.
