A day in the life of a Recall Walker petition circulator
Edited on Sun Nov-20-11 08:21 AM by Scuba
I have the privilege of leading a small team of Recall Walker volunteers here in Wisconsin. They are a smart, committed group of People, who care about our State. I was impressed with them from the beginning, when they stated their reasons for volunteering. In most cases, their concerns were not for themselves. It was for their children and grandchildren, and for the future of all our State residents.

Yesterday they were out in numbers, gathering signatures at town dumps, deer registration stations (it's opening weekend) and other public sites.

In their reports, they told of the many People who approached them, signed the petitions (Walker & Kleefisch) and then thanked them for what they were doing. Heartwarming stuff.

They also told tales of encountering folks who disagreed. This is where it gets funny. Apparently, Republicans know nothing about their State Constitution, the US Constitution, or our governor.

My favorite tale comes from "Betty" a 60-something volunteer who worked the town dump yesterday. She and another volunteer with her were approached by a man who insisted that she had to remain at least 100 feet away from any PUBLIC property. They asked, "do you mean private property?" but he insisted they weren't allowed on public property. He promised to call the police and have them arrested. Not sure how that phone call went, but the cops never showed.

Another man approached them and "demanded to know what authority gave us the right to be there."

Betty's reply was classic: "I told him the Wisconsin and Federal Constitutions and also told him that I had talked to the Sheriff and District Attorney both of whom said we had the right to be on public property. I gave him a copy of First Amendment. He mumbled something and drove away."

Betty is also pretty well informed. When one man brought up health care, she was able to show him just how much Walker's policies are hurting HIM. She described him as "stunned" at these "new facts". Maybe he'll come back and sign next week.

Anyway, I love our Recall Walker volunteers. Please send them some good vibes.

3. I wish everyone was as informed as "Betty".
Then, there would be no need for a recall, because those assholes would never have been elected in the first place.

5. For right wingers...everything they know about the constitution
They learned from Rush Limpballs and Glen Beck.
And they cannot be educated by normal means because normal means they think is communist.

8. When we signed yesterday...
One of the ladies there told us that she'd never 'gotten the bird this many times in' her life.

Sad. You want to disagree with people? That's cool. No need to be rude about it.

9. Yesterday in Green Bay there were two ladies positioned across from Lambeau...
...collecting signatures.

Some People were signing; others were shouting angry words, and giving the finger.

I made a point to stop and thank them for their service. Please take a moment to thank any Recall Walker volunteers you see. They could use the reminder that the majority of People in Wisconsin are not a-holes.

11. well Godspeed with your work. A recall of Walker would be a progressive victory equivalent to the
reactionary victory of California Prop 13 of 1978 - in its importance in changing the direction of the country and moving us back toward the path to sanity. The fate of a nation is with you - not only for Wisconsin and for public sector employees but for the whole country and the world.
