2. Note for anyone planning to attend a drum circle or protest...
Home Depot and similar carry large plastic buckets which are premium for durability and volume level.

To make a real statement take a large home water cooler plastic container, they have a wonderful, deep THUM

:D

4. He'll probably be at his home in Bermuda for the weekend. He jets there regularly.
I don't think he even lives in the mayoral mansion.

As the mayor of New York, Bloomberg declines to receive a city salary, accepting remuneration of $1.00 annually for his services. He maintains a public listing in the New York City phone directory, residing not in Gracie Mansion – the official mayor's mansion – but instead at his own home on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, at 17 East 79th Street between Madison and Fifth Avenues. He owns additional homes in London, Bermuda and Vail.

7. Just to correct any impression of selflessness on that $1
thing. Bloomberg came into office in 2001 worth 4 billion dollars. He is now worth an estimated 19.5 billion.

So he made 15.5 billion dollars being mayor of New York.

9. Generally speaking, when they make any money at all in private life, they do the one dollar thing.
Ted Kennedy did it as well.

It's probably easier from an accounting standpoint, perhaps.

15. Yes, Ted Kennedy had money, but the scale is quite
different. To give you some idea, Bloomberg has been mayor for about 10 years, or about 3600 days. To earn 15 billion dollars in 3600 days, you would have to earn over 4 million dollars EACH DAY! I think Ted Kennedy might have been worth somewhere between 40 and 80 million dollars. So Mike Bloomberg 'earns' more in 20 days than Ted Kennedy possessed in his entire life. So the scale is a bit different.

Of course the bigger difference is that Ted Kennedy devoted most of his life to trying to make things better for those who have very little, and Mike Bloomberg has devoted his whole life to making things better for himself and a few others who have so much money they can't even really count it.

16. A million here, a million there....pretty soon you're talking real money!
I wasn't speaking to motivations or intentions, good or bad, simply the tendency of very wealthy people to eschew the (relatively small--in their world, anyway) salary offered a public servant, and take the token buck.

11. I just might be there.
Hell, this and a plastic spoon will make a fine drum:

http://yeslab.org/drumcircle

Word on the street is that Bloomberg loves hippies. So now, finally, a drum circle you don't have to be high to enjoy: this Sunday at 2pm, for 24 hours, bring the love to Mayor Bloomberg's personal townhouse: 17 East 79th Street.

Tie-dye, didgeridoo, hackeysack welcome! No shirt, no shoes, no problem! And if you don't have talent, don't worry: FREE DRUM LESSONS offered! Also on offer: collaborative drumming with the police!

Even though this is a 24-hour drum circle, don't be late! The mayor loves evictions. Who knows what'll happen? But no matter how long it lasts, there'll be an afterparty and love-in in world-famous Central Park just next door.
