Welcome to PHASE 2 of Occupy Wall Street, now here is a message

by MinistryOfTruth

The point of Occupy Wall Street is NOT to camp in tents, it is to challenge power and corruption.

And now that our tents are going away I am almost relieved. The tents were becoming a distraction anyway, now it is time for us to focus on how we will place pressure on the corrupt power structure and demand the changes and reforms and accountability we all know is absolutely necessary if we are going to have a viable future for millions upon millions of working class people.

So Welcome to PHASE 2 of Occupy Wall Street, and here is a brief message based on what I have observed in my 2 months of participation . . .

<...>

I keep hearing from people that Occupy Wall Street protests don't have a clear message, so here is a short rundown of the "message" as far as I have seen.

Interesting Daily Kos diary.

3. MinistryofTruth is unclear on the concept.
The tents were a distraction, really?

Maybe time to listen at GA and turn off the corporate media.

4. Thanks for the refreshing post on OWS

All the blame Obama angry faux rage posts are getting old. This one tells the real story. Peaceful protesters striving
for a solution to deal with corrupt corporations. :-)

6. Who ruined the economy? George Bush

And these morally corrupt corporations didn't come about because of Obama. I'm done with the "angry" posters and whatever you think you're accomplishing here.

11. refreshing not to have Obama bashing

did not make it about Obama. You made it about Obama with your sarcastic comment about Obama is doing fun that's why angry people... blah blah blah.
Welcome to my Ignore list. You have nothing sensible to say about comments from reasonable OWS protesters who actually have a good goal in mind. That
was the whole point of the peaceful OWS, not to have complete mayhem. That solves nothing.

From now on, 'll ignore the faux rage and the sarcastic posters.

10. None of this matters if people don't vote...
None of it.

If occupy doesn't move more people to vote for more Democratic candidates then it will have achieved nothing.

We just had an election a few days ago and while we got a nice win in Ohio and a few other victories, we also lost a lot of ground in Virginia and other states. Turnout was light in most places and at best election day was a rather mixed result.

Change happens at the ballot box. Occupy must emphasize this. That is the primary goal.

12. Agree ... OWS has the potential to drag the entire political balance to the left ...
But everyone in it needs to get engaged in the political system and stay engaged for the long haul.

The conservative movement didn't just appear out of nowhere. its been going on for more than 30 years.

And it could have been easy for them to give up ... take Roe V Wade ... the GOP runs on it every year, and yet they can't get it overturned.

The conservatives could have given up 20 years ago, but they don't. They are in for the long haul ... and if that means slowly chipping away at it, they do it.

We have to be in this for the long haul. It won't all happen at once. And we can't give up (which is what the GOP and the media wants) when we only get some of what we really want. We have to take every victory, no matter how small, cheer it ... hold that ground, and then go get more.

14. That is pretty much exactly how I see it...

Very well said.

17. As long as OWS remains an independent movement
Edited on Thu Nov-17-11 08:53 PM by hulka38
and is not co-opted by the political parties, this movement will grow in numbers and power. All OTW has to do is be the anti-corrupt two party system. The next financial meltdown caused by Wall Street and bailout for Wall Street will drive people in hoards toward the movement as will whatever comes out of the super duper committee, especially if it results in cuts to the beloved programs medicare and ss. Each act of kabuki theater presented by the system will diminish its credibility and power while increasing OWS.
