Our Fuck-You System of Government
Source: Smirking Chimp

Governments are supposed to fulfill the basic needs of their citizens. Ours doesn’t pretend to try.

Sick? Too bad.

Can’t find a job? Tough.

Broke? Can’t afford rent? We don’t give a crap.

Forget “e pluribus unum.” We need a more accurate motto.

We live under a fuck you system.

Got a problem? The U.S. government has an all-purpose response to whatever ails you: fuck you.

2. Our govt got this way after decades of being told it must be run like a business
Edited on Thu Nov-17-11 04:03 PM by librechik
nobody even remembers that our govt used to be our protector against big business, the last resort for the homeless, the jobless, the hungry. Now we're told govt either can't serve the public or must make a profit while doing so, just like business, or hire some business to do it for us, which of course is more expensive because business must show a profit.

Nowe we're told if we want our Great Society to continue and grow that we are insane and evil.
We used to be just plain Democrats, and our wish was shared by everyone in the US, even Republicans. We have been highjacked and imprisoned with bars of rhetoric and cash.

6. You forgot just one thing:
Edited on Thu Nov-17-11 04:10 PM by david_vincent
for a LOT of people (overwhelmingly men), those bars are made of steel. The US warehouses men for whom it can't provide jobs at the behest of corporations who find that sort of thing profitable. We imprison far, far more people per capita than any other nation on Earth (Chile is a distant second).

15. sadly true--another skewing of intent
of course, the govt should be the representative of the law, but law is merciful and just, not merely to punish.

3. So fucking true
our government actively works AGAINST the interests of a people. Nothing short of a full scale revolution is going to change anything. Do you see Obama doing anything about it? Hell no. He doesn't even believe in creating government jobs - boy but he LOVES the ""private sector"". What a load of shit. We're in huge trouble here and NOBODY in power gives a shit!

8. My favorite Obama quote, "We need the private banking system" !!!
The President had the responsibility to nationalize the banks when they were insolvent but he instead gave them a revolving credit line of $16 Trillion - as revealed by the recent audit of the FED. President Obama also defended the insane bonuses to the ripoff bankster crooks. What happened to "Candidate Obama???"

He was lying.

We (here at DU) argued about it then.

There's nothing left to argue about now.

17. Yeah
i fell for his bullshit back then. we had never seen him in action as president and i guess i wanted to believe. now we have seen him in action - or lack thereof - and there is no excuse for it, even though some seem to bend over backwards making excuses for him to this day. candidate Obama never showed up - he was a myth - a lie - all along.

4. They represent the 1%, and the 1% alone. Our former government is
now fully dedicated to serving the interests of the global economic elite.

19. e pluribus unum is NOT the official motto of the USA
Edited on Fri Nov-18-11 02:36 AM by Tx4obama

Never codified by law, E pluribus unum was considered a de facto motto of the United States until 1956 when the United States Congress passed an act (H.J. Resolution 396), adopting "In God We Trust" as the official motto.

20. Thats the big difference between the U.S. Govt and the European Governments
Edited on Fri Nov-18-11 02:56 AM by AZ Progressive
European Governments have UNIVERSAL help to the people, The U.S. Government is always trying to find excuses NOT to serve the people, or make it hard to qualify for certain government help. The most striking differences was shown in the Sicko Movie.

AND this is why America's more similar now to a third world country, many third world countries have "fuck you" governments.

21. I must say, many Americans are also like that
Edited on Fri Nov-18-11 03:23 AM by AZ Progressive
Remember the Republicans who cheered to let someone die if they didn't have health insurance in the Republican debates?

I cringe when I see Americans try to be as cold and heartless as possible to someone that's suffering, instead of trying to help them. Look at how bad many Americans treat homeless people. Look at what many Americans say to the occupiers: "Get a Job" knowing that the job market is really tough.

Why do I have to deal with asshole customer service representatives on the phone that would rather give me bad news rather than do their research and find that they were wrong and I was right? I cringe just thinking of how many people were given bad information that made them lose something just because an asshole worker didn't really try to help them. It's not American to be cold and heartless just to satisfy some greedy corporation

I should say 'fuck you' to the Business world which churns out cold and heartless business leaders that have ruined America.

22. Yes, our govt. is pretty libertarian toward citizens.
Again, for lurking republinazis who may be reading this, the more of us who are allowed to become disabled or die due to lack of health care, the less tax money will come in for your wars of choice. Ditto for your offshoring of American jobs.

And also, the more sick people running around, the greater the danger to your family that a communicable, treatable disease will get passed on to your loved ones.

This is not a civilized country.
