GOP State Rep: Actually, Americans Are Pretty Lazy
Republican State Rep. Josh Byrnes of Iowa took to Politico’s Arena today to say exactly what President Obama did not. The president is under attack by Rick Perry and other Republicans for supposedly saying that Americans are lazy. However, he never said anything of the sort, as even Rick Perry surely knows. He was talking about efforts to win foreign investment, not the American people.
That hasn’t stopped Iowa Rep. Josh Byrnes from bravely agreeing with the president on what he never said. Byrnes does in fact think Americans are lazy, or at least the tens of millions of American unemployed:

"I might have to partially agree with President Obama on this one. I don't think Americans as a whole are lazy, but we have some pockets of Americans that appear lazy. Ironically, the president has helped enable some of these pockets by doing things like extending unemployment benefits."

(...)

"There are jobs out there and I think the problem is that some people think some of these jobs are beneath them. When you are unemployed I don't think there should be any job "below" you. In truth it's probably more of an ego or perception issue than being lazy. Thank goodness our immigrating ancestors to the United States didn't have that attitude."

Hmm, a Republican admits that there are jobs Americans won't do and because of our laziness we deserve to lose those jobs to underpaid illegal aliens?

1. Yeah I sure am lazy
I work 10 hours a day and during crunch time 12 hours a day plus weekends and am a parent. I love staying up until 11:00 doing homework with my kids and trying to have a decent family relationship in a world that demands two working parents to just get by while simultaneously telling us we're failing our children by not staying home with them and cooking them perfectly balanced meals. Gawd I am so sick of Republicans. When will they just go extinct?

8. people working two or three jobs to keep their heads barely above water
they played the same game in the eighties under reagan. How the japanese worked harder than americans and when an auto company, the labor out produced, the company moved the company out of country. I wondered at the time why the media wasn't comparing american labor to europe. the media carries water for the corporates all the damn time.

I took a part time job at mervyns while going to college. There was a single mom there who worked three part time jobs, a man who was retired but could not make ends meet on his bare retirement. I'd say there are many on the hill who are completely clueless or they don't care what's going on in the real world.

4. More of this please! Keep Talking! Keep . . .
. . . keep it . . . oh who the hell am I kidding? They've been saying this for years and their "temporarily embarrassed millionaire" following laps it up like gravy at a Cracker Barrel.

6. I think I saw a chart that shows Americans work longer hours for less
pay and less benefits than all other similar countries.

Yeah, we're so lazy.
