Turkey Day's Coming!! Check the needs of your Local Food Banks, Soup Kitchens, etc.
With Thanksgiving Day coming, we should be mindful of those who suffer from food insecurity and rely upon Local Food Banks and Soup Kitchens to provide food for their children, families and themselves.

It is unconscionable for children to live in a land of plenty and go to bed hungry.

Our Food Banks and Soup Kitchens play a pivotal role in reaching out to those in need, and they always experience greater requests for food during Thanksgiving and the Holidays. In some cases they run out of food BEFORE the Holidays arrive, and AFTER the Holidays it takes a long while to replenish their stocks.

IF you have the opportunity, check with your local Food Bank and let us know if they are running low on food to meet the needs of food requests in their area. And if you have the means, donate some amount (no amount is ever too small!) of food and/or cash to those who seek only to help those in need.

2. and if you get a free turkey consider donating it to the food drive
Lots of people get free supermarket turkeys with a purchase. Please consider donating that turkey to a soup kitchen or food bank or pantry.

5. Good idea!
My sweetie is getting a turkey from work. Since it is just the 2 of us, I'll give them the turkey. I can just cook a turkey breast for us.

:-)

Don't forget Coats for Kids.

3. Winter is here and we also need warm coats, gloves and hats. Also, tents, air mattresses, sleeping
bags, and food that can be cooked over an open fire or Sterno.

10. The one I volunteer at certainly can. And this weekend our facility will be used as an emergency
weather shelter. Different foodbanks have different capabilities.

4. Donating food is great but also consider donating cash. Food banks can do more with your cash for
food purchases than you can. They get quantity discounts and bargains from organizations like Food LifeLine. http://www.foodlifeline.org/

11. Keep in mind kids out of school do not get a school lunch once a day ...
... and that is why it is even more important to support the Food Banks and Soup Kitchens during the Holidays.
