EXCLUSIVE: Perry challenges Pelosi to debate

Rick Perry sent a letter today to Nancy Pelosi, challenging her to a public debate next week.

snip...
"I am in Washington Monday and would love to engage you in a public debate about my Overhaul Washington plan versus the congressional status quo.

I think it would be a tremendous service to the American public to see a public airing of those differences. Let the people decide.

If Monday doesn't work, perhaps we could find a time in Iowa over the course of the next month to discuss these issues in front of the people of America's heartland."

6. Let us know how that works out for ya, Ricky. Nancy Pelosi is
100 times smarter than you, and she will slice off your cojones without you even noticing, and you will be thanking her for her kind remarks as your stones roll off the edge of the stage.

A debate like this could actually make us feel sorry for Ricky, it would be so painfully embarrassing

31. My thought exactly
Perry must not be aware of the fact that Boehner is the Speaker of The House and that he has been part of the Status Quo since 1994.

This might be funny - except it shows how stupid the Republicans know people are that would actually vote for them.

15. He's counting on her to say no.
He doesn't want a debate, he wants her to decline so he can puff out his chest and say he "won" because she was skeered to debate him. Of course, it would be like debating immigration policies of leprechauns. There's no "debate" to be had because they don't exist. Rick's vision only exists in his mind. It's just another distracting circus act for the rubes under the Big Top.

19. And oh my, what a silly plan it is
http://www.nydailynews.com/news/politics/rick-perry-unveils-uproot-overhaul-washington-plan-iowa-turn-congress-part-time-gig-article-1.977721

Perry demanded Congress be turned into a part-time operation and slash lawmakers pay in half.

Other major initiatives to limit the government include banning the Transportation Security Administration, which harasses "law-abiding travelers" and replacing the organization with private companies, axing the Internal Revenue Service, changing the life-long terms of U.S. Supreme Court justices to 18 years, and criminalizing insider trading by members of Congress.

"I do not believe Washington needs a new coat of paint, it needs a complete overhaul. We need to uproot, tear down and rebuild Washington D.C. and our federal institutions," he told a crowd in Bettendorf, Iowa.

The governor says in addition to cutting legislators' $174,000 pay in half, he wants to "repeal the rules that prevent members of Congress from holding real jobs in their home states and communities."

24. I don't see why Nancy Pelosi should be debating Rick Perry about Congress.
1. She is not the Speaker of the House.
2. Even if she were, Rick Perry is a governor, why should the Speaker of the House debate a governor?
3. Even if she ignores all that, Nancy Pelosi has better things to do than to debate Rick Perry.

44. Is This a Joke?
Even after clicking on the link I am not convinced that the whole Perry wants to debate Nancy Pelosi is real. There is a point in the supposed letter where there is a question "Do you believe Washington is broker?" I guess this is supposed to show that Perry has bad grammar; however, it makes me wonder if the letter really came from Perry.

Perry wanting to debate Pelosi is the equivalent of a guy who has lost all his boxing matches demanding a boxing match against Manny Pacquiao. I am not trying to say that Pelosi is the political version of Pacquiao, but she is no Rick Perry. I think she does a better job speaking than Perry.

If true what is Perry thinking? Why would he ask Nancy Pelosi to debate him considering all the trouble he has had during debates? Is he hoping that she will refuse to debate him? Is he thinking that he will look like a strong guy in that he was eager to debate Pelosi even though in the past he had performed poorly in debates? I just do not see the point of Perry asking Pelosi to debate him.
