Meet Dorli Rainey, the 84 yr old woman who was pepper-sprayed...
Eighty-four-year-old activist Dorli Rainey tells Keith about her experience getting pepper-sprayed by the police during an Occupy Seattle demonstration and the need to take action and spread the word of the Occupy movement. She cites the advice of the late Catholic nun and activist Jackie Hudson and her advice to “take one more step out of your comfort zone” as an inspiration, saying, “It would be so easy to say, ‘Well I’m going to retire, I’m going to sit around, watch television or eat bonbons,’ but somebody’s got to keep ’em awake and let ’em know what is really going on in this world.”

A must watch video clip of her interview with Keith Olbermann:

Ms. Rainey is an inspiration.

1. One thing that struck me
was the talk about her experience on the bus.

I expect people to already know what's up and to already understand. I assume that they do know, and that they knowingly and consciously choose to support the fascists or to just not care and thus support the fascists by default.

She says that the people had never met anyone from Occupy and who had been pepper sprayed to talk to before.

I guess I've never really known a person who didn't know and then learned.

2. Most don't know, they only know what the 2 minute coverage of it on the 6 pm...
newscast says or the headline and small article in their newspaper has and that is assuming they do watch the news or read the paper. Most now know the name "Occupy Wall Street" or recognize OWS but not much beyond that and it precisely situations such as Ms. Rainey described that allow for wonderful learning opportunities for those involved.

Sometimes when we are very passionate about something like OWS we assume there is at least a base knowledge that everyone has, we are mistaken.

3. Wow.
Just WOW.

I was trying to figure out her accent. I am glad she spoke about growing up in Germany and the problem with control of the press (and the lies) as is happening here today.

Usually when I see/meet a wise and caring elderly person I just want to give them a hug. In Ms Rainey's case I would like to get a hug. She has something I want and perhaps could rub off.

Over and over again I see ageist comments on DU. They usually go unchallenged. I hope those inclined to make such broad, ignorant, and damning comments are paying attention tonight.

I feel the same way!

As to your point on the ageist comments, also well said.

5. She grew up in a fascist, media-controlled country (Germany?) & she sees how it's happening here.
She's an awesome, utterly cool woman with a lot of substance; I enjoyed every minute of her conversation. I love how Keith let her have the entire segment. I could see that he found her inspiring, also.

6. she truly IS an inspiration
I love how she said her friends consist of all ages and colors and that they aren't druggies, etc...the damn MSM slander has to stop!
...and she was in DC for the Oct 2011 rally and got all charged up and couldn't wait to come back to Occupy... :loveya:

I feel the same about hoping some of it would rub off on me ...and maybe a few more of us ;)
