Cain chokes again!
http://weblogs.sun-sentinel.com/news/politics/broward/blog/2011/11/cain_train_hits_south_florida.html

snip

'In Miami, when WPLG-Ch. 10 asked him about a key Florida foreign policy issue – the wet foot-dry foot policy which grants asylum to Cuban refugees who make it to shore in the U.S. but returns those interdicted at sea – didn’t have an answer to the question.

“A leader doesn’t have to know everything, but a leader has to know something,” Cain said, explaining that he’d ask the right questions, hire the best advisers, and bring clarity to U.S. foreign policy by aiding friends and punishing enemies.'

A child should have an informed opinion on Wet Foot/Dry Foot.

Punishing enemies? What is he, ten?

6. Wet Foot/Dry Foot
A racist, politically-motivated immigration policy which is wrong-headed and antiquated.

8. In simplest terms...
A refugee from Cuba or Haiti if intercepted on the ocean ("wet foot") will be returned to their home country. If they make it to land ("dry foot") they can request asylum.

10. NO NO NO
That's 100% wrong.

A Cuban gets on the fast track to a green card through the CAA http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cuban_Refugee_Adjustment_Act. A Hatian gets deported.

Asylum has nothing to do with it.

17. Well, not really racism...
Cubans can be of any race. It's just a 3rd rail of presidential politics (remember when SS was?) because changing it would drive South Florida into a frenzy. In essence, it's as close to "Amnesty" as we get for a particular nationality under the immigration laws.

Now imagine if we had this policy in place for Mexico...

19. Well unless you're running for President then it's OK to be ignorant
This is a pretty well known policy, even outside of Florida.

26. Agreed, and he was being interviewed in Florida
So a bit of preparation - if he were really surrounding himself with the smart people, they'd know to bone up on that issue.

22. Seriously, someone has to pull him aside and tell Cain that he's the only one who still thinks he's
a viable candidate.

Some Republican has to have that much mercy in him or her, right?

Well, maybe not.

25. A President has advisors, but that doesn't mean he knows nothing
Cain is carrying that Reagan mantra too far. Of course a President will have as much advice and surround himself with informed and smart people. But that doesn't mean he doesn't have to know anything himself.
