11. Some people insist that wind farms are the devil--Ted Kennedy was one of 'em.
http://www.bostonherald.com/business/general/view/2009_01_17_Ted_Kennedy_hits_Cape_Wind_OK/

So was Walter Cronkite, until he reversed himself with a contrite apology.

We still can't get CAPE WIND because the rich don't want their view "ruined."

I think the things are beautiful, myself.

much prettier than the casinos that ugly up the ocean view and the boardwalk.

43. *laugh*
The last town I lived in there was a planned wind farm on the valley ridge (town was in the valley so the farm would overlook the town). There was a large group of people FREAKING out about it. "It will ruin my VIEW!" I shit you not.

The wind farm happened, and it looked beautiful. I used to love to watch it on windy days. But I still laugh about those people who took ads out in the local paper and hired a lawyer to fight the wind farm. Idiots.

29. I lived on a C-5 training base. Didnt bother me at all
The end of the taxiway was just down the street. And then the hospital was right behind my house and they tested their generator weekly.

We used to call it the sound of freedom. Miss the sound of taps played at 2200 hrs.

I knew some people who were right down the hill from our local water tower...

They took out flood insurance, just in case.

Ya never know!

It has never had a problem...

Edited on Tue Nov-15-11 12:10 AM by Thegonagle
A wind farm would be great. Their gearboxes can make a little noise, so I wouldn't necessarily want it 25 feet out my window, but a field full of hundreds of them is actually cool to look at--even mesmerizing--like the ocean or a bonfire.

32. I voted Casino.
I guess I imagined the question more as having one of these very close to my home, as many of the choices are already techincally in view of my home because I have a panoramic view of the Los Angeles basin. That said, I'd love to have a casino within, say, walking distance.
