A man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for assaulting a 7-year-old boy in the toy section of a Midlothian Walmart.

Prosecutors in Ellis County on Monday announced the penalty for 39-year-old Phillip Wayne Waller of Maypearl.

A jury in Waxahachie convicted Waller of indecency with a child over the October 2010 incident. He received the maximum penalty during sentencing last week.

ONE COMMENT
known this guy for 10 yrs and i find it really hard to believe that he would molest a little boy. This guy is on going hardcore christian. He was raised in a church where his dad was the preacher. If there is ANY hard evidence that he did it i would like to know if not then i refuse to believe it. I just found about this and this really bothers me....

Edit to mention-The ONE COMMENT was made by his neighbor-not me...

9. Forbidding something is often the catalyst for those who are subject to it to seek it out.
The ultra-Bible freaks that abuse their kids with fear of God are just creating an environment for rebellion. Why that translates into pedophilia is beyond sad and certainly confusing, but there seems to be a shitload of it happening.

4. I don't know if the guy is guilty or not. However, if child molesters looked like child molesters,
it would be very hard for them to find victims.

Probably learned to molest at home.

Also, your comment is disgusting.

It's known as black humor, a way some people deal with stressful things.

24. I have used a similar 'black humor' line myself over the years. And my
older sister (now deceased) and I were both victims of the same perp, a relative (mom's new husband).

Sister left home to live with our father, molestation stopped, probably out of fear of being caught.

No problem here with your humor.

11. They generally can hide in plain sight.
Look at the BTK Killer--he was a church deacon and a "fine upstanding member of the community" for years while he was perversely murdering people.

They certainly are not going to walk around with horns and pointed teeth--the only obvious ones are cartoons, like on the Family Guy. It would be preferable if they were so obvious--they'd be easier to avoid.

Often, per the experts, these perverse lessons are learned at home.

Caveat--"Innocent until proven guilty, blah, blah, etc. etc." If there's nothing on the video (and Walmart is pretty well wired) he won't be in jail for long. If they hold him for a big bail and arraign him, they've got something.

12. Honestly - when I hear that someone is a "hardcore Christian"
my next thought is - "What is he working hard to suppress?

Its just automatic with me as the hardcore group uses faith in the hope it will serve as their personal governor. You just can't pray away the urges.

15. Religion does not buy morals
Just because this guy was a "hardcore christian" doesn't mean he wasn't a child molester. Those two things are far from mutually exclusive.

21. he was released on Bail
"Waller had made bond about a week after his Oct. 12, 2010, arrest but was taken into custody again June 21, 2011, after failing to make a court appearance. He will receive credit for the 247 days he has been in jail and must serve at least 10 years of his sentence before he is eligible for parole."

And I doubt there was a conflict on interest on the part of the judge.

18. It's often those we never expect
Abusers were often abused themselves. It can destroy families for multiple generations. Also being Christian or whatever religion does not stop these things, often times they are the source of it.

19. Walmart has every inch of
their stores on camera and they save the recordings for a while. I don't think they have cameras in the restroom stalls but wouldn't put it past them. There is a good chance they have film of the act.
Child predators are very, very good at making themselves seem like the last person on earth that would do anything like that. It helps them avoid getting caught.

"The fourth statement was given after Waller agreed to let police search his Maypearl residence, where he lived with his mother. There, authorities found four mannequins constructed from children’s blue jeans that had been stuffed with various materials like pillows. In his fourth statement, Waller told Cole he used the mannequins – which were introduced as evidence during the trial’s punishment phase – to “relieve his sexual urges.”

25. I shop at Walmart. Even worked there for about 6 months. Many times I've
heard parents tell the children to go play in the toy aisle while they shop.

Always seemed to me that this is just inviting disaster.

Kidnapping was my fear. Never would have imagined somebody assaulting them RIGHT THERE! But times have changed, for the worse.

27. Agreed. Never did come to understand that sort of behavior (unsupervised kids).
Ours were within arms length every time we went into a store. The lessons must have been well learned - now we have grand children AND great grand children who are always within arms length of their parents when in stores.

In truth, now they keep US within arms length when we go anywhere with them.
