How the nuclear industry uses its bloggers network to lie to the public

There is a network of "nuclear bloggers" that work with and are coordinated by the nuclear industry. There is a point person at the nuclear industry lobbying group the "Nuclear Energy Institute:" that is responsible for social media outreach and at nuclear industry conventions the bloggers are invited to attend hosted workshops (promoted and planned by employees of US Dept of Energy Labs) designed to spread the nuclear gospel.

One of those bloggers is "the next big future" where a particularly repugnant and persistent lie has been concocted and has spread in a fashion where it is accepted as a "truth" all around the internet. It purports to be a complete comparison of the rates of death associated with production by the various types of power generation. Here is the website and the chart that represents the authors handicraft...

2. I would imagine that is where my moniker, given here on DU
came from when I started to link and publish in earnest the stories in the Japanese media that did not sugar-coat the events on the ground. Reason being that the US media are foot in shoe with the industry and government.

I am officially an "Extreme Enviroweenie Bullshit Peddler with Biased Claptrap."

I relish that handle and I invite their hatred.

Interesting to see whom it is that shows up here to defend.

3. They won't show up here
But keep an eye on the threads that don't identify their shenanigans, and they're right there, every time, without fail. DU rules prohibit calling out posters, and I don't have first-hand evidence for any particular poster, but it's appallingly obvious that DU hosts any number of these dishonest little sock puppets who can't compete aboveboard in a fair exchange in the arena of ideas, but resort to this nonsense.

If the stakes weren't so serious, it would be almost humorous. As it is, it's just pathetic.

4. Of course. The entire nuclear "industry" is a lie and a sham.
They have to lie. Because if they told the truth there would BE no more nuclear power.

5. A lovely bit of rhetoric intended strictly to shut down any rational debate.
Nobody can have legitimate differences of opinion: anyone who disagrees with you is a paid shill of the Evil Industry. Even though by that standard someone could have just as much justification in accusing you of shilling for the coal industry.

7. Linking to news stories is shutting down any rational debate?
You wanna back that up a bit?

You really think what you wrote is true? No one said anyone disagreeing is a paid shill, but folks that object to news stories, that only insult and do not discuss the facts, then that is really an industry shill to me.

Want to see for yourself? Go back into the archives or DU Google March 11, 12, 13 for discussions and examples therein.

I am relying on facts and the record.

You?

12. Did you really expect a response?
That means you must be a silly "Extreme Enviroweenie Bullshit Peddler with Biased Claptrap"...

There is always a lot of that kind of response to factual antinuclear posts. It's either baseless rhetoric or total silence. A well reasoned defense of the nuclear position simply isn't a part of the strategy. I guess once you see the man behind the curtain, there really isn't much else they can do...

9. Someone certainly doesn't like the discussion about the bloggers activities.
Edited on Fri Nov-11-11 02:56 PM by kristopher
The net recommendations at the linked post in the OP dropped from 10 to 3 the last couple of hours (even while this one went to 6) but since their activities are coordinated by an email alert system it isn't surprising. Those that are organized always have an information advantage over those who are not.

swarm the threads, working together.
