My son is recently home from Iraq and is soon moving back up to Ohio.
Some of the people I deal with daily on FB (and elsewhere) think that because I am liberal lefty I don't like our troops, that I don't respect the sacrifices they have made carrying out their orders.
Here is the thing. I respect them for doing their job, and I know firsthand the worries of families with loved ones in harm's way. When my son was in Iraq he would dream he was home with the wife and kids. Then wake up. Now he worries he will wake up and being home is all a dream. Sometimes he is scared to go to sleep, told him I understand that - I still have dreams about mom being alive and her and I hanging out, then I wake up. My daughter, 10, missed him and worried about him all the time. She cried when she found out he was home safe, as did I.
So I am anti-war. I hate war, I hate having our kids tossed into conflicts half a world away for nothing. So I support people out protesting against the wars.
To the right that makes me anti-American, against our men and women in the armed forces.
No.
I am against doing what the right has done time and time again, sending our kids to die for nothing. My son has been trying to make sense of why he was even over there, and I don't know what to tell him "We just sat there, targets. We didn't do anything that made a difference."
Support our men and women in the military? Check. Support the wars they were sent to? Nope.
Thank you to those that are and have served this country and gave up years of your life in the military. Screw those that used them for their petty wars.
I made this video in 2006. Still feel the same. Bring the troops home.
