22. How about the Boards of Directors governing American Corporations that decided to increase
the ratio of CEO pay to their average workers from approximately 29x the rate in the late 80s to over 400 times that of their average employees today.

They must believe the average American worker is lazy beyond belief to promote such a tragically ridiculous, and unjust disparity of compensation for services rendered or they truly believe as Michael Douglas's character in the movie "Wall Street" so succintly put it "Greed is good."

7. ... because RW propaganda works -- and because Democrats are SILENT ---
Corporate money buys a lot of silence --

and we also have something like 40% of our Congress who are those "greedy" Americans --

many of them millionaires or multi-millionaires!!

"Our Congress is controlled by the oil and gas industry" -- Al Gore/Rolling Stone this summer

And keep in mind, Al Gore, himself, was sponsored life long by one of the oil comapnies!

45. Democratic voters are not so much silent as too invested in individual...
...causes.

Gay rights; educational rights; the rights of the bullied; race rights; healthcare rights; animal rights; etc.

Too many rights and too many people become distracted away from another's equally valid right, to defend their own.

And like it or lump it, we do have homophobic vegans, racist gays and dogfighting bullies amongst us. People who will sometimes deliberately vote to hurt others, even if ultimately it would be in their best interest to vote otherwise.

WTF is wrong with plain HUMAN RIGHTS for all?

Even HUMANE rights for everyone and everything.

Law which doesn't single out groups for protection, but forbids with all possible force, the singling out of others for harm.

8. Because the right wing has spent a LOT of money pushing this propaganda
and it fits right in with the enslaving 'work ethic.'

I never understood the so-called American work ethic. Well, now I do.

There never was any need to push a work ethic. From the beginning of humanity, people have worked very hard. TOO hard, always to put money in the pockets of the powerful and wealthy.

The bullshit American work ethic was always nothing more than a way to encourage willing serfs to submit to a never ending workday, endless poverty, and to question NOTHING.

16. It works for me.
I'm not greedy, I just want my fair share - the same stuff all Americans have.

I am lazy, I don't want to work any more than I have to. I have other things I'd rather do.

So it's not hard to believe that other people are just like me but worse.

But to believe that only 400 people are so incredibly, overwhelmingly greedy as to confiscate most of the world's wealth and not even spend it on anything, but sit on it like Scrooge McDuck - no, that's fucking unbelievable. That's just insane.

So, yeah, I can see how people fall for it.

The gods USED to be crazy. Now they seem to be in the final stages of mad cow disease.

19. Perfect
I know people who think exactly this...the jobless are lazy, and it's all their fault.

Are there some? Sure. But it has to be a small minority that are happy living on the dwindling (now non-existant) unemployment insurance, and meager Government handouts.

And those religious zealots...what would Jesus think about your idea?

I'm guessing that there's a lower percentage of the 150 Million that are lazy and simply milking it as a freebie than there is the number of the 400 that aren't greedy.

27. Easy answer.
Far too many people still believe in the Horatio Alger, every-man-can-be-a-success, pull-yourself-up-by-your-own-bootstraps bullshit, even as they themselves hang by a rapidly fraying thread.

The American Dream is a myth that they're still buying into, and that the greedy bastards are all too eager to exploit.

And everyone of those 400 are "rugged individualists" who made their fortunes in a vacuum without society's help.

We 99% are just lazy and envious. If we got up off our asses, all 300,000,000 of us can be in the top 400!!!
