Jay-Z cashes in on ‘Occupy Wall Street’ movement with merchandise

Hip hop artist Jay-Z has joined a slew of other companies looking to profit off the energy behind the “Occupy Wall Street” movement.

His Rocawear clothing label plans to begin selling “Occupy All Streets” shirts on Friday, which Jay-Z donned during a backstage appearance with hip hop pioneer and “Occupy” supporter Russell Simmons.

A spokesperson for Rocawear told Karlee Weinmann of the Business Insider that the company had no plans to donate any of the profits made from the shirts to the ongoing protests against the consolidation of economic and political power.

“The ‘Occupy All Streets’ T shirt was created in support of the ‘Occupy Wall Street’ movement,” the spokesperson said. “Rocawear strongly encourages all forms of constructive expression, whether it be artistic, political or social. ‘Occupy All Streets’ is our way of reminding people that there is change to be made everywhere, not just on Wall Street. At this time we have not made an official commitment to monetarily support the movement.”

7. Perhaps he needs the cash to buy a last name for his kid?
Between him and his wife Beyonce, it's the one thing it will lack.

14. "Jay-Z’s ‘Roc-a-wear’ removes ‘Occupy Wall Street’ shirt from site"
http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2011/11/12/jay-zs-roc-a-wear-removes-occupy-wall-street-shirt-from-site/

For Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter, it appears he’s “onto the next one.” Onto the next money making idea that is.

After taking heat for his Roc-a-wear clothing line selling “Occupy Wall Street” T-shirts without donating the proceeds to the movement, the rap superstar’s company has decided to take down selling of the shirt on their website.

Jay-Z had worn the shirt earlier in the week in a photo with music mogul and regular ‘Occupy’ visitor Russell Simmons. Simmons has continued to defend the multi-platinum artist’s decision on his Tweeter page despite the criticism, saying, “what Jay-Z did was great.”

Ummm, so he'd rather scrap the shirt than donate the proceeds to OWS.
