Russia Dismisses Calls for New U.N. Sanctions on Iran
MOSCOW — Russia on Wednesday sharply dismissed calls for further sanctions against Iran in the aftermath of a new United Nations report on suspected Iranian nuclear activities, signaling the Kremlin’s departure from the cooperation on Iran that was a hallmark of the “reset” in relations with the United States.

“The world community will see all additional sanctions against Iran as an instrument of regime change in Tehran,” Gennadi Gatilov, Russia’s deputy foreign minister, said in comments to the Interfax news service. “This approach is unacceptable to us, and the Russian side does not intend to consider such a proposal.”

A Foreign Ministry statement released later on Wednesday further illustrated Russia’s negative reaction to the report, distributed a day earlier by the International Atomic Energy Agency and characterized by the United States and its European allies as a significant new critique of Iran’s nuclear program.

The Russian statement, by contrast, called the report “a compilation of well-known facts that have intentionally been given a politicized intonation.” It said the authors “resort to assumptions and suspicions, and juggle information with the purpose of creating the impression that the Iranian nuclear program has a military component.”

6. Support for the long-predicted Iran War that no one on this
forum ever supported airc? Who ARE these people?

From what we now know, btw, the Iran War WAS being pushed by Cheney and his gang of traitors, but Bush of all people, refused to go along. Maybe he had enough blood on his hands by then, or maybe he was advised to forget about it by wiser heads since such a war would probably finish off this country.

2. Thank goodness at least one country is free to reject the propaganda.

8. I see it as Iran having just as much right as any other country to have nukes.
I will say that I wish nobody had them.

13. Russia has absolutely no interest in seeing Iran develop nuclear weapons.
But they evidently know fake accusations when they see them.

9. You mean for interfering with OUR arms sales to African, the ME
and elsewhere. Where do you think all the arms now flooding the country came from? Who is the biggest arms dealing country in the world?

Russia is correct and I am glad there is someone to balance the mad, warmongering of this out-of-control Empire and hope they are successful.

12. They, unlike Iran, have nuclear weapons.
Not to mention their little problem of colonizing other peoples land in direct violation of Article 49 of the 4th Geneva convention and their other occasional war crimes.

Seems like a better target for the UN.
