Oakland Cops Criminally Assault U.S. Army Vet (also posted by

KPete in LBN forum)

-snip-

A second Iraq war veteran has suffered serious injuries after clashes between police and Occupy movement protesters in Oakland.

Kayvan Sabehgi, who served in Iraq and Afghanistan, is in intensive care with a lacerated spleen. He says he was beaten by police close to the Occupy Oakland camp, but despite suffering agonising pain, did not reach hospital until 18 hours later.

Sabehgi, 32, is the second Iraq war veteran to be hospitalised following involvement in Oakland protests. Another protester, Scott Olsen, suffered a fractured skull on 25 October.

On Wednesday night, police used teargas and non-lethal projectiles to drive back protesters following an attempt by the Occupy supporters to shut down the city of Oakland.

No U.S. media are reporting on this. Typical. I already emailed my U.S. Rep (Karen Bass, CA-33rd) to demand a Congressional investigation be launched. This is what a police state looks like.

Please keep this one kicked (and thanks to kpete for posting in LBN).

1. Unmistakable signs that things must change. Some of them, right now.

3. First Scott Olsen, now Sabehgi. Both vets with tours in Iraq. I am
speechless with rage and cannot articulate properly right now.

5. This is obviously a terrible thing
but I'm not sure how it's any worse than the police beating someone who isn't a US Army veteran. Is that just me? I don't get how his prior military service makes this a special case or somehow worse than the same thing happening to anyone.

7. I agree it's not worse but it has a certain amount of irony to it
I mean, this guy had a job where if his day goes bad, he's dead, survives that job only to come back to the US and be injured by people that are supposedly there to protect him. See, irony.

8. Understood and Agreed. But there is a certain poignance, I would
argue, to the fact that a veteran of a foreign war comes home and is brutalized by the very 'civilians' (I use that word loosely for these Oakland jackbooted thugs) on whose behalf he ostensibly was serving.

If this gains traction in the alternate media, it MAY reach the MSM.

11. Keith's show did a whole segment on this tonight and spoke
to the Guardian Reporter who wrote the story. He had spoken to Sabehgi in the hospital and said he was in intense pain, his 'stomach was filled with blood' he told the reporter. He was angry naturally.

A Veteran Against the Wars was also interviewed. She also spoke to Sabehgi and said they were very disturbed, veterans, at this second assault on an Iraq War Vet by the Oakland Cops.

It is shameful that the Corporate Media has not even mentioned this, but thought it of great importance to report on a broken window. Can anyone doubt whose puppets they are?

And shameful also that only three elected officials have condemned the criminal activities of the police since this all began.

It's also a shame that we have to go to the Foreign Media to get news like this or from people on the street.

12. Sabrina, just for everyone's edificatiion, who are the 3 elected
officials who have condemned?

I'm pretty sure one is Barbara Lee and another is Dennis Kucinich.

13. Yes, Barbara Lee and Dennis Kucinich and I do not know the
ID of the third Rep. I'm surprised by this as there are many Dems I would have thought might have spoken out against these illegalities. I am wondering if they are afraid?

I will try to find the name of the third individual as they should be given credit for doing the right thing.

Scott Olsen on Oct. 25. So far, received back nothing other than mealy-mouthed politician speak. Hopeful my latest email barrage about Sabehgi lights a fire under her tail. But not holding my breath. (FWIW, Bass from CA's 33rd is a member of Congressional Black and Progressive Caucuses.)

15. My Rep is a Repub, and I do not know much about him having
moved here only a while ago. Still, maybe it's worth writing so they ALL know we are watching what they do. Repubs are the ones who USED the troops so hypocritically and now do not care about them at all.

I will send an email and see if I get any response.
