6. I've been reading Chris Mathews new book on JFK...

"JFK: The Elusive Hero".

I've had some political bones to pick with Matthews over

the years, but overall, I find him

very difficult to dislike.

He calls this his "lifework"

and, you can feel his affection

for the man in it.

It's filled with little gems, and insights

you've probably have not heard before,

and it has a very relaxed, conversational tone.

I recommend it highly.

7. Congress just collapsed into a useless jumble of lumps of protoplasm

when we no longer had Senator Kennedy holding things together, it feels like.

Congress seems to have turned into a collection of individuals intent on enhancing their own wealth by parasitizing American taxpayers. (Barney Frank and Tom Harkin come to mind as exceptions.)
