Reasons to Love Democratic Underground
There are lots of reasons to love Democratic Underground. When I think of DU's contribution to advancing liberalism, I think Skinner deserves an honorary doctorate. This place is like a family - a contentious family to be sure, where people call each other names and stalk out mad.

There was nothing remotely like DU before DU, a fact that critics often overlook. Robust argument is welcome here - we engage each other's ideas. DU serves an important function in American life. Another important reason I love DU is that I get to post about cats. I love cats!

Lots of kindred souls on DU

19. The Zen of Cats
I can't tell if cats work at tempering their earthly desires or whether they just don't give a shit. My two cats have simple needs - food and a litter box. They manage to fend for themselves finding a place to sleep.

Cats never have insomnia.

7. And no mention of DU love would be complete
Without a mention of the gratuitous Appreciation Fund, which stands at a robust $0.37, two buttons and a Necco wafer from under the couch cushions. Give generously for the holiday season!

10. A downside though is that substantive political discussion concerning the Democratic Party is near
impossible, unless you keep it to just sunshine and roses.

11. I haven't noticed that.
I've spent the better part of the last two days criticizing the hell out of it but haven't had so much as a post deleted. Perhaps it's the substance of the criticism more than the target.

It is a Democratic website at the end of the day though, so there is that rather limiting factor when it comes to bashing the party.

14. I Agree With the Taboo on Democrat-Bashing
I get your point about sunshine and roses, but I think Skinner has made the right call in wanting this site to be Democrat-positive. I should acknowledge that I'm not as hard-core Leftist as many DU members are. For instance, I still support President Obama and will vote for him with enthusiasm. That said, I agree with people who say he hasn't given the people what they voted for. The escalation in Afghanistan was entirely uncalled for . . .
