Ron Paul: Government your worst enemy
http://iowaindependent.com/63149/ron-paul-government-your-worst-enemy

By Douglas Burns | 11.01.11 | 8:55 am

CARROLL — Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul says the country is finally catching up to his brand of politics and economic thinking.

For three decades, the libertarian-leaning Texan has preached limited government, a smaller role not only domestically in the form of lower taxes but also abroad, with a less adventurous foreign policy.

“Right now your biggest threat comes from your own government,” Paul said. snip

Paul said Americans demonstrating now, either in the tea party movements or Occupy Wall Street groups, appear to break into two categories: people who are scared they won’t get their government handouts and those who are tired of paying for big government.

1. “Right now your biggest threat comes from your own government,”
But Ron, aren't you part of that government?

6. That's right.
This is where Ron Paul types and OWS types should be finding common ground.

Government -- like most of it is now -- that is owned by the mega-transnational corporations IS the enemy.

13. Good propaganda revolves around a few facts.
But Ron Paul is not an educator, he is a persuader.

But those so enamored with, ahem, Dr. Paul view anyone who refutes his statements as trying to hold power against them, and refuse to assimilate their message.

4. Paul only works to assure corporations have MORE freedom to screw over the labor, the consumer and
the environment. He works to assure that CORPORATIONS have unlimited power over our lives, as they seek to privatize EVERYTHING.

5. This horseshit has been festering for decades.
Folks bereft of ideas like Paul will continue to regurgitate this old canard over and over.

Hey, Ron! What "government?" Government "of, for, and by" the people? Or government of the corporations?

Specify, please, because if you opposed government "of, for, and by" the people, you are saying you oppose government made up of your fellow citizens. If you say "government of the corporations," then you're on to something.

But you have to specify and forget this "Gipper Talk." Save it for FOX...

7. in enough cases, those who are "scared they won't get their gov. handouts" and
the "tired of paying" are the same people ... plenty of TPers on Medicaid, gov pensions, and at least one case of getting a farm subsidy (gov. handout) ...

isn't what refuses to cover his dental work that the dentist said was required if he wished to avoid jaw surgery; government isn't what slashes wages in my field. So Ron Paul can suck it.

I will not donate to any OWS movement that embraces Ron Paul for President because to do so means one has no fricking clue what OWS stands for OR what Ron Paul stands for.

12. I tune out when they mention handouts
I haven't heard a single OWS protester ask for a handout from the government. Wall Street asks for them, but not OWS.

This is the kind of propaganda they keep repeating, and they know how to make it stick.

People who aren't able to tell thee difference between a corrupt government and an honest one are probably our second worst enemy.

16. Problem is, he misidentifies those who are afraid of not getting their
government handouts.

People collecting unemployment are not getting government handouts. People on food stamps are not getting government handouts. People on social security, SSI, disability, or getting Section 8 subsidies are not getting government handouts. Those are all means-tested programs, or paid-for entitlements intended to keep people out of dire poverty, which would be the immediate result for most without those programs.

The government handouts are going to oil companies, to banks, to multinational corporations in the forms of direct subsidies and massive tax breaks when they are not needed. Government handouts are no-bid contracts for MIC industries.

A common meme is that Democracy lasts only until the people learn they can vote to give themselves government money; I believe the people have shown themselves to be very good about that - they support higher taxes on themselves to keep a strong safety net in place for society as a whole. The problem is when corporations seize the government and are able to vote themselves money - corporations have no soul or conscience, and will readily shred the safety net to enrich the psychopaths at the top.

I truly fear we are in the last years of the American democracy - if they have not already passed.

23. Blatant CONTRADICTIONS never ever SHAMED them.
Why would they start now?

They say they don't want government, and never end running for running it AND for the ENTITLEMENTS they vote for themselves.

They say they don't want government intrusion, and promise government intrusion in women's lives and LGBT lives 24/7 60 seconds later.

The list of their blatant CONTRADICTIONS is long, very long.
