GRAPH: Occupy Wall St. & independents
The center right Dems here are always saying that Obama should ignore progressives to attract independents, but when it comes to Occupy Wall St, it looks like independents agree with the dirty fucking hippies, professional left, and the base of the Democratic Party (who are not right wing Democrats).

Will the Obama administration and Democrats in Congress, especially the Senate, act accordingly?

Or will they look for excuses to agree with the Republicans (or more specifically, their corporate masters) even when their positions are deeply unpopular with the vast majority of Americans?

2. How can only 54% of Dems agree?

That number seems about 20 points low to me

13. Because the OWS movement is almost entirely nonpartisan
in my experience at a couple different sites, and the majority there criticize both sides of the 2 party system.

It's no surprise to me.

19. I'll answer your question with a question.
If President Obama walked out and said, "just tell me what policy you want enacted, and I will work the rest of this administration until it's either done, or my administration is over" - what policy exactly would it be?

4. K & frickin' R!
We're a progressive nation, for the most part. When Dems move to the right, we just give credence to the right.

Thanx yurbud. :yourock:

5. the numbers were similar on the public option for health care reform and pulling out of the Iraq War
for the last five or so years, but those didn't seem to effect our elected ''representatives'' either.

9. The illusion that independents are centrists has caused a great deal of mischief
Not only does it pull the Democratic Party to the right, but it creates the illusion that there is a vast reservoir of "moderate" solutions that the two parties could agree on.

Meanwhile, everyone who has become fed up with both parties from a progressive perspective is effectively disenfranchised.

10. The excuses to go right have seldom added up.
We've been warning that much of the frustration of the left is exactly why we are hemorrhaging independents.

12. Exactly!
Not only will the left feel alienated, but Democratic politicians that attempt to compromise will also bleed independents.
