Portland school board approves ANTI-WAR recruiting in schools
Yes! You read that correctly. Read on:

From http://www.katu.com/news/local/132500683.html">KATU.com:
PORTLAND, Ore. – Antiwar groups got the green light Monday to go into Portland public schools and meet with students.

The Portland Public Schools Board unanimously approved the measure during an evening meeting.

Now, antiwar groups will have the same school access as military recruiters and will allow those groups to pitch their antimilitary message to students.

At high schools, students will get a packet of information from those "counter-recruiter" groups like War Resisters League.

Much more at the link- and it's a fairly short article. Worth reading!

1. Seems, and is, fair, but ...
Unfortunately anti-war activists can't offer students facing a jobless future an alternate "job" like the military can.

Until we do something about the poverty that feeds the poverty draft, not enough will change.

Still, it is good to see the anti-war side get to make its case.

2. I think this makes absolute sense, so long as everyone is civil to one another and
everyone--recruiters and their opposites--sticks to the truth and avoids hyperbole.

Why shouldn't students get all sides of an argument?
